  • I love my Solara !!! - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara

I absolutely love my car. Ive had no mechanical problems thus far and have driven it hard on business trips. The only complaint I have is that the tires are very very expensive and I wore out my first set quicker then I expected, but thats life right! I highly recommend buying this car used b/c the depreciation on it sucks. I also have a stick shift which I hear is hard to come by in the v6. One more thing.. my old colleage races his Solara against Porsces, BMWs etc and it performs good (of course not better then the fancy cars but it holds it own)

Im the original owner and love this car. Its handling in town and on the freeway is exceptional. Its got a lot of zip for a V6 and the interior is very quiet. I love the JBL sound system, as well as, the smooth ride. Very fun to drive.

I spent over a year trying to replace a 1987 Audi 5000 Quattro for a reaonable cost and this is what I came up with. Most any other car I could afford had low frequency road noise rumbles which I cant stand. Im 40-something but single and work in entertainment, so style is important. The Solara is a not- a-family car with enough room for 3 hotties in the back seat and a good sound system. To be called a "fly ride" by 20-something starlets and still attractive to middle age executive types of both sexes is a neat hat trick. Looks like a Lexus at a fraction of the price. 140 mph speedometers on cars that will never go that fast are truly stupid.

I bought the car used from relatives in 05, with 203,000 miles on it, and its now running 260,000 with no problems. I had to replace brakes, rotors, and struts when I bought it (blame it on a bad mechanic that my uncle used to use) and only have replaced spark plugs ($30 from Toyota) and spark plug tube seals ($12 from Toyota). Its a great car, great ride, performance is lower because its a 4-cyl. Great first car.

Love this car! It drives likes a Lexus. I have owned the 1999 Solara SLE V6 since it was new. I have had few problems with it in the 11 years. Get the leather in this car! It is unbelievably comfortable. I would love to drive a Prius for the gas mileage but Im keeping my classic as long as I can.

I have 84k on my 99 solara. Im on my 4th set of tires, yes, 4th (no, Im not Mario Andretti). Had to have my fuel injectors replaced just after warranty was up (how convenient). The mirror unit fell out of the driver side sun visor and I was charged $186 for a new one. My air bag light has come on about 8 separate times, each $86 diagnostic check tells me "I dont have the gas cap on tight enough". I now have a record number of lights flashing on the dash - air bag, engine light, and track off, but all the diagnostic is going to tell me is that the gas cap isnt on tight enough.

Im in love.... from the first minute I drove it. With its 6V do dont feel gravitation, just acceleration. Very smooth drive. Nicely loaded.

I have had this car since new and the only thing I have had replaced has been the timing belt, water pump and tires. I have 180,000 on the odometer and have not even replaced the clutch. The strut mounts will need to be replaced because I can hear a clunking noise over speed bumps and this seems to be a common problem with the Solara. The tires also seem to be an issue because they wear out pretty quickly. I have no complaints because even after 9 years I still get compliments on the looks and even the way it drives. It also still gets great gas mileage. The original stereo was okay but an upgrade to a Sony made a world of difference, sonically speaking and the speaker are still OEM.

  • Great Car! - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara

We bought our Solara new. We have the 4 cylinder engine with automatic transmission. We now have about 116,000 miles on it, and the only problem, the water pump had to be replaced at 69,000. What a great car, best weve owned. Uses no oil and we get from 23-26 around town and up to 34 on the highway. Its a dream to drive whether in town or highway, smooth and quiet. Still feels like a new car. Plenty of power for highway cruising and acceleration. Weve considered getting a new car, but why? Wouldnt be afraid to drive this cross country tomorrow.
