Overview & Reviews
This all-new coupe is based on the Camry platform. Designed jointly by the Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan and the Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the Solara is targeted at consumers who want the style of a sports car but the room and comfort of a larger, more practical vehicle.
- The Accord Coupe is slightly quicker and has a one-year head start in market share.

great car - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By chatty - January 7 - 2:00 amI love this car! I have had 6 hondas and this is my first toyota. I like this car much better than any of the hondas I have owned. The ride quality is excellent...feels like you are floating on air. The interior design is beautiful...I love the the silky smooth leather seats. I get nothing but compiments on the car....especially after peolpe ride in it! I have the traction control which is working great in the current snow and ice conditions. I love the auto dimming rear view mirror and fully ajustable head rests (move forward and back). I never want to stop driving this car...very smooth.

Great Car - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By N8 - October 17 - 1:33 amI have had my SLE for almost 5 years now and I am about to roll over 200,000 miles. I have had a few minor issues with the car but overall it has been an excellent car. The CV joint boot split and ran dry and I had to replace the axle twice. The first time it was still under warranty, and the second time was around 160,000 miles. Smooth ride, good gas mileage for a V6 (27-29 mpg on highway depending on how heavy my foot is!!) and plenty of get up and go. Runs like new!! I would recommend this car to anyone who drives a lot and plans to keep the car for a long time.

We Love Our Solara XLE - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By Jack & Kathy - June 26 - 10:00 amWe have had the normal oil changes, have replaced the tires and brakes, maintenance is very low on this vehicle and the performance is that of the 944 Porche without all the problems. The car has 58,000 trouble free miles.

My best car to date - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By REofOregon - May 19 - 2:00 amI love this vehicle. Its comfortable for passengers and has plenty of trunk space even though its a 2 door. Its a very quiet, comfortable ride on the highway. My only critique is the inability to hug a tight turn. Otherwise, its a great car for a single or small family buyer.

I Love It!! - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By Dot Matrix - April 16 - 10:00 amI bought my Solara new over 5 years ago. I now have 68,000 miles on it and have only replaced the battery and tires. Every rider comments on how quiet and smooth the car rides, and cannot believe it is not a Lexus. Every piece of the car operates smoothly from the engine to the door handles to the moonroof to the seats. Quality permeates the minor and major details.

Green 99 SLE - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By 99SLE - January 21 - 10:00 amI spent the first two years explaining I wasnt driving a Lexus (SC) to friends who insisted it reminded them of one. This car excels at highway driving. I seem to take a lot of 3-5 hour interstate trips, and this is the best car Ive ever driven for them. Only regret: I drive it too much.

Great Solara - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By Don Schubeck - December 9 - 10:00 amNo problems in 54000 miles. Im a former Detroiter who usually only bought U.S. vehicles. Have only replaced battery and tires. I have owned about a dozen vehicles (mostly new) and this is the best.

Great all-around car - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By Derrick - November 17 - 3:10 amI bought my 1999 SLE in 2004 with 68k on it. Last night (6/25/09), I finally traded it in as it approached 149k. In the time I had it, I did a tune-up at 90k (more of a preventative thing). At that time, one O2 sensor went out and a little after that I had to replace the front brake rotors. Otherwise, it was simply regular maintenance. The styling held up over time and it was a very comfortable car. It was no hot rod, but it was never meant to be. I really enjoyed owning the car and only traded it because I wanted a hatchback.
