  • I think the front struts need a recall - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara

Everything has been great with this car except for the front struts that I have had to bring in to be serviced. That cost over $300. It is obviously a common problem and should be recalled and fixed by Toyota at no cost to the car owners.

I purchased my 1999 red Solara used a little more than a year ago. The previous owner had leased it and only put 17,000 miles on the car in over 3 years. It now has about 31,000 miles on it. This is the best car I have ever owned. The car is beautiful inside and out and an absolute pleasure to drive. The steering is tight, the ride is smooth and the back seats have ample space. I have had zero problems with this car, and it is now almost 5 years old. I expect to keep this car a long time and would heartily recommend it to anyone looking for a stylish, reliable and reasonably priced car. I doubt there is any car out there that is a better value.

  • My Toyota Solara was the best car Ive ever owned. - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara

I bought my Solara new in December of 1998 even though it is a 1999 and it has been the best car Ive ever owned. The gas mileage is unbelievable as is the cost to own. Change the oil regularly and your good to go. Fast forward to 2016 and I still own my 1999 Solara thats how good of a car its been.

  • Best car Ive ever owned - 8yrs+ - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara

Im on the verge of potentially trading in my dark green/tan leather 99 SLE w/ 157k. I do not want to get rid of it, but a 3 yr old and a newborn make a coupe impractical. Said simply, aside from some suspension issues, a valve cover gasket, and the backlight on the JVC stero going out, the car has been flawless and still looks fantastic. I get comments everywhere. Two recent ones were from the husband/owner of my sons daycare, who wanted to take a spin, because he always wanted a Solara and never got one ("Its a Lexus with a Toyota badge" - his conclusion), and several less car savvy people who just cant believe its 11 years old.

  • Not a car for the snowbelt - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara

Plain interior-wheres foreign fit & finish? Speed rated tires suicide in snow. Windshield fogs. Main problem, struts! Complained many times about clunking noise. Dealer finds nothing loose. After research, I uncover known strut problem. Failing strut on an icy road cause car to swish left into a skid after hitting dip. $7,500 in sheet metal damage, luckily no one hurt. During repairs, rented 2003 Impala; felt safe & in control for 1st time since 5-99 when I bought 1st (& last!) Toyota. Hurray for Moms apple pie & good ole American Chevrolet. (P.S. any Solara lovers want to buy totally repainted 99 SEV6? hahaha)

  • Best Toyota I Ever Owned - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara

From the minute I test drove one I wanted it. It handles great, and dont let anyone tell you a four cylinder engine doesnt perform. 135 horses is more than adequate for this car even with the air on, plus you get the benefit of great gas mileage. Ill put 100,000 miles on no problem. This is my 5th Toyota, and there will definitely be a 6th.

  • Good and Reliable - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara

Im currently at 90,000 miles. It runs like new. Very reliable car. Ive also had minor interior problems such as driverside visor mirror/light fell out. The coin tray has been replaced. Toyota Dealer replaced these and my front brakes at around 50,000 for some unpublished recall/problem with the breaks (all no charge). I just had to replace the battery for 1st time. I am on 3rd set of tires.

I have owned this car since it was new and I have never had a moment that I couldnt share about it. I driven far and wide, through North America and I would definitely consider it to be the best car I have ever driven. Its smooth, quiet, luxuriously appointed, yet sporty and great to look at. The drive quality is above average, the performance is great, though over-time its best to use Amsoil Synthetic Motor Oil to retain the original performance of the car. The car handles great after I added a custom 2002 Solara suspension to the car and slightly tuned the new shocks to give it a bit more grip and feel to the road! Overall an amazing car that I recommend to anyone that loves cars!

  • Great Car! - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
    By -

Great car, have had it for almost 7 years now, 120,000+ miles on it, not a single repair, no squeaks or rattles, still running as smooth as its first year. I have put many miles in Mexico on so so roads with no problems. Friends cant believe it rides so smooth and how good it feels and looks after 7 years and more than 100k miles. Have had all the services done at the dealer. Great for long trips, very comfortable, good mileage. Ive driven the car from No Cal to Central Mexico, on rain, snow, desert, still running strong!

  • Im trading mine in for a Volvo! - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara

Overall my V6 SLE has been ok, but not what I expected from a Toyota. The parts are expensive ($200 for an O2 sensor, $250 for a pair of tires, $75 for a set of spark plugs), and the 18-20 MPG that it gets is now killing me at the pump ($60 wont fill the giant tank). The A/C controls are still a hassle to use, even after two years of owning the vehicle. The doors are extremely heavy (not good if you dont lift weights), and require plenty of room to open (not good if you live in a place with tight parking!). The exterior of the car is very attractive, and unfortunately it was that and the Toyota name that sold me this car. I wish Id done some research!
