Overview & Reviews
This all-new coupe is based on the Camry platform. Designed jointly by the Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan and the Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the Solara is targeted at consumers who want the style of a sports car but the room and comfort of a larger, more practical vehicle.
- The Accord Coupe is slightly quicker and has a one-year head start in market share.

99 SLE - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By CiVOL Engineer - August 15 - 10:00 amI have had the car for about 2 weeks and I like it more each time I get to drive it (it is my wifes to drive). We were really only looking at 99-01 Accord EX-VL cars until I noticed this on a local lot (certified). One drive made me forget about the Hondas. Smoother ride, better leather, and better styling than the Accord.

Exceptional - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By luv67fire - April 8 - 2:00 amThis car is perfect if you are look for a sophisticated, yet sporty vehicle that will make you feel like they put the Toyota symbol on accident and forgot the Lexus symbol... Ive drove many different Lexus and this drives and looks like a $30,000 car. My husband and I are still young and like sports cars... we actually went from a Nissan 300zx to the Solara and I must admit that I am loving the Solara much more! Since they have been out for a few years now, I would recommend finding a used SLE for a decent price. Definitely worth every penny spent!

Good and Reliable - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By Faithful to Toyota - September 16 - 10:00 amIm currently at 90,000 miles. It runs like new. Very reliable car. Ive also had minor interior problems such as driverside visor mirror/light fell out. The coin tray has been replaced. Toyota Dealer replaced these and my front brakes at around 50,000 for some unpublished recall/problem with the breaks (all no charge). I just had to replace the battery for 1st time. I am on 3rd set of tires.

Sex on Wheels - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By toyotasolara - September 13 - 3:00 amI have owned this car since it was new and I have never had a moment that I couldnt share about it. I driven far and wide, through North America and I would definitely consider it to be the best car I have ever driven. Its smooth, quiet, luxuriously appointed, yet sporty and great to look at. The drive quality is above average, the performance is great, though over-time its best to use Amsoil Synthetic Motor Oil to retain the original performance of the car. The car handles great after I added a custom 2002 Solara suspension to the car and slightly tuned the new shocks to give it a bit more grip and feel to the road! Overall an amazing car that I recommend to anyone that loves cars!

Im trading mine in for a Volvo! - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By KxVx - February 9 - 5:53 pmOverall my V6 SLE has been ok, but not what I expected from a Toyota. The parts are expensive ($200 for an O2 sensor, $250 for a pair of tires, $75 for a set of spark plugs), and the 18-20 MPG that it gets is now killing me at the pump ($60 wont fill the giant tank). The A/C controls are still a hassle to use, even after two years of owning the vehicle. The doors are extremely heavy (not good if you dont lift weights), and require plenty of room to open (not good if you live in a place with tight parking!). The exterior of the car is very attractive, and unfortunately it was that and the Toyota name that sold me this car. I wish Id done some research!

By Toyota Fan - February 2 - 3:30 amI bought my car new and have put 132,000 miles on it. It has been a great car. This car is very reliable with very good gas mileage, ave 28-29 mpg (driving combo of 1/3 city and 2/3 freeway).

My best car to date - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By REofOregon - May 19 - 2:00 amI love this vehicle. Its comfortable for passengers and has plenty of trunk space even though its a 2 door. Its a very quiet, comfortable ride on the highway. My only critique is the inability to hug a tight turn. Otherwise, its a great car for a single or small family buyer.

So Far So Good - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By Jeffry - July 19 - 2:00 amI spent over a year trying to replace a 1987 Audi 5000 Quattro for a reaonable cost and this is what I came up with. Most any other car I could afford had low frequency road noise rumbles which I cant stand. Im 40-something but single and work in entertainment, so style is important. The Solara is a not- a-family car with enough room for 3 hotties in the back seat and a good sound system. To be called a "fly ride" by 20-something starlets and still attractive to middle age executive types of both sexes is a neat hat trick. Looks like a Lexus at a fraction of the price. 140 mph speedometers on cars that will never go that fast are truly stupid.

Great car - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By matt - June 29 - 1:36 amI bought the car used from relatives in 05, with 203,000 miles on it, and its now running 260,000 with no problems. I had to replace brakes, rotors, and struts when I bought it (blame it on a bad mechanic that my uncle used to use) and only have replaced spark plugs ($30 from Toyota) and spark plug tube seals ($12 from Toyota). Its a great car, great ride, performance is lower because its a 4-cyl. Great first car.

Im glad everyone else liked theirs cuz. - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By disappointedowner - May 4 - 10:00 amI have 84k on my 99 solara. Im on my 4th set of tires, yes, 4th (no, Im not Mario Andretti). Had to have my fuel injectors replaced just after warranty was up (how convenient). The mirror unit fell out of the driver side sun visor and I was charged $186 for a new one. My air bag light has come on about 8 separate times, each $86 diagnostic check tells me "I dont have the gas cap on tight enough". I now have a record number of lights flashing on the dash - air bag, engine light, and track off, but all the diagnostic is going to tell me is that the gas cap isnt on tight enough.
