This Year's Model Updates:

In an effort to get buyers under 30 into its dealerships, Toyota launches an all-new division called Scion. The brand will eventually grow to three models, but for now two are offered, one of these a boxy, attention-getting vehicle called the xB. Scion will use a no-haggle sales strategy and give buyers ample opportunity to customize their xBs, drawing upon a list of over three dozen dealer-installed options.

Pros:
  • Massive interior for its size, unusual mini-truck styling, long list of standard equipment, comes with stability control, handles well for a budget-priced vehicle.
Cons:

With the cold air intake system, a car that would be considered slow is actually fairly peppy. Ive never owned a car that attracted so much attention.

Whwn we bought our Scion xB in 2003, most people had not even heard of a Scion. We took a trip cross country in our "Little Baby Boots," we had the best drive. It is great on gas and confort, and easy for my handicaped wife to get in and out of. We could not have asked for any better car. The funny thing was, the further East we got the less people knew what a Scion was, even a Highway Patrol officer pulled us over to ask what it was, so not only did we have a great ride, we had a lot of fun.

I have 1000 miles on the car. 31 MPG average. Very quiet for a small vehicle. For its size, it holds a lot of stuff. Mountain bikes, telescopes, friends. This is one fun car to drive and own. I looked at minivans. Looked at trucks....Boring! xB is the answer to a boring car world.

A great European looking car. A car that looks like it would not have much room in it but the opposite is true. You have lots of head room as well as leg room, both in the front and rear seats. It drives and handles well. Acceleration is great when passing cars and no power is lost when A/C is running. Fuel economical. that drives and handles

I recentley took a trip to a small town east of Bakersfield Calif from Sacramento Calif. Once free of traffic I smoked at 85 plus for 5 hours. Averaged around 30mpg at that speed, not to shabby. The trip back may have exceeded 90 for long stretches but I wont admit to anything. My little Xb was quite, solid, and as comfortable as the sport suspension could be. I love this little car and everybody stares at it. Like it or not you have to admire Toyotas daring with the Xb.

This little car is so fun to drive. It holds all my tools and equipment for my job, plus hauls my huge 66" friends around with complete comfort and room.

I am very impressed with the handing of such a boxy-tall car. You have to keep the RPM high to get to the optimum power. Accelaration is adequate for a 108 HP motor. This car attracts so much attention. If you dont like attention, dont get this car.

  • Crash Worthy - 2004 Scion XB

Just totaled my XB (04/19/08) with a head-on crash with a Dodge Dakota P-up (airbags deployed). The drivers area was in perfect shape. The front end was crushed to the base of the windshield. Crumple zones worked as advertised. I walked away as did my 4 year old son who was strapped in his child seat in the back passenger side. Im back in the market to buy another one(2004-2006). 2008 XBs look like they were designed by the Michelin Man...Yuck!
