This Year's Model Updates:

In an effort to get buyers under 30 into its dealerships, Toyota launches an all-new division called Scion. The brand will eventually grow to three models, but for now two are offered, one of these a boxy, attention-getting vehicle called the xB. Scion will use a no-haggle sales strategy and give buyers ample opportunity to customize their xBs, drawing upon a list of over three dozen dealer-installed options.

Pros:
  • Massive interior for its size, unusual mini-truck styling, long list of standard equipment, comes with stability control, handles well for a budget-priced vehicle.
Cons:

The car has a wonderful new very unconventional design when compared to the current roundness of new cars. The car has lots of room for passengers or cargo but unfortunately not for both. Great gas mileage. Great no haggle buying experience, if you go to the right dealer.

If you want is a cheap, extremely reliable four door with way more space than youd first notice, this is it. If you want comfort and power, go elsewhere. If you dont expect more than you should from this true Econo-Box, than youll actually find the Xb a joy to own. Its actually fun to drive and does well with its limited HP (tho an automatic with the air on must be a drag). Its extremely roomy inside, and easy to get into for older folks, and itll haul lots of junk. Top that off w/30+ mpg and rock solid reliability and cheap to maintain prices and its perfect for those who like its frugal design nature.

I love the fact that I get great gas milage. My teenage sons really like the way the car makes heads turn. The ride is a little rough because the car sits close to the ground. You will feel EVERY bump in the road. It takes a little getting used to when driving at night. There is NO dash panel that US drivers are accustomed. The 6-CD changer is a MUST. You will hear some wind noise when driving even with all windows up and doors locked. I think Toyota could have had a tighter build with the door panels.

  • Pretty cool ride, but nothing flashy - 2004 Scion XB

Ive had my xB for about 6 months now, and its a great get around town car. Weve taken it on a couple of road trips (nothing flashy, just a 5 hour drive up the coast), and it can get a bit uncomfortable after a while, but what car doesnt? Good gas mileage, decent get-up-and-go, and a very cool sound system with lots of upgradables if wanted. Defenitely worth the price!! One note: get the cold air intake! It takes away the air conditioning torque deficit.

  • Just a test drive - 2004 Scion XB

Recently had a test drive and did not find what I expected (after reading all positive reviews). I have 2003 Corolla S and 2003 Mitsu Outlander. Compare to them there is nothing in this car except exterior look. The gas mileage worse then Corollas (despite smaller engine). There is less space then in Outlander. The performance much worse then on any of them two. (I was scared how easy to make 6000 RPM on this car). The price is $200 more then Corolla S and only $2000 less then Outlander. (based on the engine size this is the car from ECHO/Accent league) I think the Matrix is much better value, if you want to have the fifth door and Toyota Quality.

  • Great except the gas mileage - 2004 Scion XB

My car is phenomenal. It is sensible, practical and fun. My only issue is that gas mileage is poor. On the highway I typically attain 28 miles per gallon. Not great for a tiny 4 cylinder. Both dealer and Scion of America insist that I am the issue. Apparently all others do get the mileage rated on the window sticker. Very disappointing to an almost perfect car in every other way.

  • love it so far - 2004 Scion XB

i picked up the xB as a second car. my main car is a 2002 BMW 325ci, but i drive 30K miles a year and have some big cargo requirements, too. so far it has been great, with one, hopefully isolated, exception, and that was when the car power-stalled on different occasions coming off the freeway. the problem was checked out by the dealer (no problems found) and has not occurred since. well, one more gripe...the gas mileage is nowhere near their claimed levels. ive been averaging 28 mpg on mixed city/highway driving.

  • Rough Drivers beware - 2004 Scion XB

I loved it, then I hit a bump lightly , the curve lightly and snow bank not so lightly. Things seem to snap, crack and split on this car very easily. I am probably too aggressive of a driver but be aware that the grille, grates and bumpers are not strong or well secured. But what a great car for performance if you have the 5 speed manual. It is fun and fast. The head room and leg room are incredible. I am 63" and I fit in this car great. I have moved some many things inside this car, its as good as van.

  • My New Scion XB - 2004 Scion XB

This car is great fun to drive, and for the money, it is a great bargain. It needs a few more features to make it a truly great car - such as: a driver right side arm rest, an indoor light in the front of the car, and lighted mirrors on the flip side of the front window visors. A tiny bit more space in the back would be fabulous. Having said all this, I am in love with this car. Oh, a tiny bit more pick-up and speed wouldnt hurt either. Hope this is helpful information.
