This Year's Model Updates:

In an effort to get buyers under 30 into its dealerships, Toyota launches an all-new division called Scion. The brand will eventually grow to three models, but for now two are offered, one of these a boxy, attention-getting vehicle called the xB. Scion will use a no-haggle sales strategy and give buyers ample opportunity to customize their xBs, drawing upon a list of over three dozen dealer-installed options.

Pros:
  • Massive interior for its size, unusual mini-truck styling, long list of standard equipment, comes with stability control, handles well for a budget-priced vehicle.
Cons:

  • Just a test drive - 2004 Scion XB

Recently had a test drive and did not find what I expected (after reading all positive reviews). I have 2003 Corolla S and 2003 Mitsu Outlander. Compare to them there is nothing in this car except exterior look. The gas mileage worse then Corollas (despite smaller engine). There is less space then in Outlander. The performance much worse then on any of them two. (I was scared how easy to make 6000 RPM on this car). The price is $200 more then Corolla S and only $2000 less then Outlander. (based on the engine size this is the car from ECHO/Accent league) I think the Matrix is much better value, if you want to have the fifth door and Toyota Quality.

  • Love my little box on wheels!! - 2004 Scion XB

I used to drive a giant chevy caprice. It loved to drink gas and was a drag to drive. Now I have my Scion and I love it!! It is adorable, fuel efficient, comfortable and zippy to drive. I can stop smiling everytime I get to drive it. I love how different it is from all the other cars out there, really something distinct and special.

  • my first Scion - 2004 Scion XB

We just bought an 05 xB, and are loving it. My wifes Grand Cherokee never quite fit her small size, but this little cutie is just right. Although we are in snow country for about three months, were hoping the ground effects will clear. I put on new Toyo all season tires, which will help in winter driving too. My in laws took a ride and couldnt believe all the room. Time will tell as far as reliability goes, but the Toyota name is a plus. I also bought the extended warranty, zero deduction, since I am traveling half the time and my wife wants no hassles. Will add more as the miles fly by.

140K and still tight! Handling is very nimble. Vehicle stability control works great in the snow when driving on snow and anybody spins out in front of you (or when deer shoot out from nowhere on dark rural wet roads like where I live. VSC compliments the ABS, EBD & TRAC control. The shape makes it look lower than what it actually is (measure it!). It has the same ground clearance as my Corolla). VERY good in snow I run all season tires all the way around and if the snow is substantial Ill lower the tire pressure on the front tires to 26lbs and its super stable and tracks great. Im impressed and I live in a very rural area with many hills (ski resort area in northern NJ).

  • Old guys like cool cars tooooo!!!!! - 2004 Scion XB

Im 57 years old, and my wife and I love our xB. We think its so ugly its cute, and so do all of our friends. Im an old drag racer and have already redone the intake and the exhaust. I am building a subwolfer box that fits in the storage compartment in the back. It handles great, workmanship is great, gets great gas mileage. I am working on phantom flames on the front end. I think it is the coolest car I have owned since I bought a 65 Mustang new.

Okay People, I was invited to the Scion Launch at the Orange Co. Fair grounds on the 14th of May 2003.. Let me tell you I was IMPRESSED with this "Car". They let us drive the Heck out of thr XA & the XB. It reminded me of my younger gocart days in the school parking lot. with the standard traction controll and the standard anit-locking brakes the car drove like it was on rails. My only recomendation is get the supercharger (an optional accessory)to take the 108 hp 4cyl. engine to a whopping 200+ hp. Like a rocket on a skateboard!

I think this a car that has been a long time coming for the younger people. We a vehicle that express individuality and that what the Scion does for all of us.
