This Year's Model Updates:

The Scion xB has been redesigned for 2008. Though the second generation of this compact wagon maintains the boxy shape that made the original a cult favorite, the xB's exterior is softer and more rounded this year. More importantly, the xB is now larger, roomier and features a much more robust engine. The interior has been improved as well, highlighted by an impressive array of high-tech audio choices.

Pros:
  • Long standard features list, strong four-cylinder engine, large passenger and cargo space, audiophile-friendly stereos, styling some people love.
Cons:
  • Styling some people find ugly, center-mounted gauges are hard to see, no telescoping steering wheel.

  • My First New Car! What a Winner! - 2008 Scion XB
    By -

I just purchased this car 3 days ago so perhaps I am a little biased but I really think its quite wonderful. We had tested the HHR, Mariner, Freestyle, LaCrosse, Vibe, and Caliber (I know I have tastes all over the place). This was by far my favorite for a number of reasons. 1. Love the look - sleek yet boxy, really stands out. 2. Very roomy on the inside, flat fold seats, great interior, already used to center gauges (thought it would take awhile) 3. Better fuel economy than what I traded in (2002 Suzuki Vitara) 4. Price (great deal! I was going to have to buy used until I found the xB) 5. Engine is nice, not too small anymore, great feel of driving. Check it out!

  • Dont Let the "Toaster" Deceive You - 2008 Scion XB

As someone who is 64", Im astounded by having 4 inches of clearance over my head when I sit in the car. At the same time, I loved having plenty of leg room in the rear even with the front seats all the way back. The trunk has held up to 4 sets of golf clubs as well. You cant go wrong with the city MPG constantly between 25-27 and the highway between 28-30. The Toyota turning radius and engine is a joy and the engine has enough pep that sub-160 HP feel like a lot more. The acceleration capability is hard to comprehend with the thought of it being a box. I never had a vital part come close to failing after 60K miles. The car also handled in a way that tire wear was incredibly slow.

  • Great car for the price you pay - 2008 Scion XB

My wife and I arrived in the US one year ago and decided to buy a Scion for the price/feature ratio. The standard model comes with everything we needed (AC/CD player/curtain air bags/power wheels/power doors etc). You pretty much get everything with it. The appearance is not bad as well and being a Toyota (made in Japan) you cant go wrong on the mechanics of it. Comparing to the FIAT Palio 1.0L I had before this car is like a Ferrari...

  • Great box - 2008 Scion XB

This car was put on the road May 1st 2008, and have been a delightful experience, Ive driven 3500 miles and loved every minute in it. I added floor mats, interior leather, a sway bar, XM radio, it has the 2.4 L engine motor which is very adequate, zips in out in traffic, park just any where, Im getting about an average of 33 to 34 miles per gallon, very consistently, no racing here, very easy on the throttle, and coast every time I have a chance, it is easy to do it with standard transmission, I love this little car, go ahead buy one, you will enjoy.

  • Almost perfect for me - 2008 Scion XB

I went from an F150 SuperCrew to this car. Major downsize, but I still fit very comfortably in this car. Ive had for it a couple weeks and the average mileage has crept up to 27mpg. This is very functional and fun car.

Clutch has a long throw. Radio did not have a manual.

  • Satisfied with my Midlife Crisis - 2008 Scion XB

Car is exactly as advertised. The blackberry crush color is amazing beautiful. Planned on wrapping it, but I am having a hard time covering up the color. The car is great on gas mileage (just got 33 mpg on a highway trip).

This is our 3rd car, intended for hauling dogs, skis, and toys. Great value for $16K. Interior no frills but very functional: perfect for intended use. Good sound, fairly quiet ride, seats okay. Very roomy: huge plus. Performance and handling more than ok, considering that I dont drive it in a spirited way; just want to haul toys and dogs in comfort. It is, after all, an econo-box. Ive got my Porsche Cayman S if I feel like driving spirited. Gas mileage has been great, probably cause I dont push it. Ave 30-32 mpg combined hwy-city; 33 hwy const. 67 mph. Dont get how some report 22 mpg; they must think they are driving sports car but cant afford a real one. xB not a sports car.

  • Good for a first car - My initial review - 2008 Scion XB
    By -

Ive only put a couple hundred miles on the car, but I thought I would offer an initial review. I will come back and do another one after a couple thousand miles. Any way the Scion xB meets my needs very well. Some people keep comparing it to the old xB, and saying it gets bad mpg and its not unique anymore. Well in my opinion the new xB is a better car. It takes the highways better and as well as the city. The mpg are not bad at all, Ive been averaging +29 MPG, and thats 99% city. Its got a great interior with lots of leg room for both the front and back, and I can haul all my stuff. I traded in from an very large V8 Chevy 4x4 truck. Get one, youll be glad. Its fun, frugal, cool
