Overall I have really enjoyed driving my black Grand Am GT-1 a whole lot. It handles better than anything I have ever owned...I have Brigestone Re730 Z rated tires and they never squeal! However the car has had quality issues...manifold replaced twice, power window regulator, fan switch...luckily I had purchased a bumper to bumper warranty through 75,000 miles with Warranty Direct and it has paid for itself many times over. One design flaw is that the only way to keep out bad outside air is to set it to MAX AC because the car lacks a Recirculate Air button like every car I have ever owned in my life...it is a mystery why they didnt include such an essential....eg Deisel Bus up ahead

I have had my Grand Am three years on 110102. Have had no engine or elec problems.Door panel peeled back due to sun damage,( Live in 100 degree summer weather), and was replaced no/chg under warantee, have not had a problem since replacement.Car has 49,300 miles on it and still kicks for a V4,no rattles or squeeks. Do not care for the seat releases for letting passengers out of back seat area, they stick too much, hard for older kids and adults to get in and out of, broke off both front seat belt holders from pulling on them ..suggest 4 door instead of coupe for back seat rider use.

  • Make Sure You Get A Warranty - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

I bought a 1999 Grand Am SE 4 door about 10 months ago and I have had nothing but trouble since I bought it. So far the transmission has been rebuilt, oxygen censor had to be fixed, brakes had to be replaced, the trunk leaks and the back floors get wet when it rains. I have also had problems when trying to acclerate-the car jumps and sometimes stalls. The dealer hasnt figured out what causes it. Do not get me wrong I like my car-it drives nice (when it isnt acting up) but I dont trust it at all. So do yourself a big favor-do not get a Grand Am and if you do make sure you get a VERY good extended warranty. Chances are youll need it.

  • Great but only when new - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

Lots of repairs! Alternator went, climate control panel replaced twice and now gone again, coolant in the oil, transmission acts funny, the list goes onÂ… The V6 gives it a good get and up and go but its noisy. Now the cabin noise is high at highway speeds and much of the suspension needs replacing. The extended warranty covered the car through 75k and it paid for itself at least 5 times over and it was only $900 to begin with. When the car was new, it was absolutely beautiful inside and out. More repairs are needed but I think I will just throw it away for a new car, trade-in is almost nil.

Ive owned this car for a Year and a half it was pretty much immaculate When I bought it I happened to be the second owner in Its life time the pros: Its fun to Drive ,amazing on gas, reliable if well taken Care of , very stylish mines in white , interior is stylish ,has curb appeal , excellent sound system didnt exspect it to be that good, my complaints about this car is the front bumper is way too low to the ground and allways scrapes Its rusting Like crazy around Wheel Wells and on the rockers of the doors clear coat is chipping on spoiler and the most important thing remember to keep your oil topped off to the top twin CAM engines are notorios for that they burn oil Like crazy

I loved this car (bought new) but problems began immediately after my warranty ended. I understand that certain things will need maintenance, but not this many things at 40,000 miles! I have since read about other GT owners with the same list of problems (mainly 1998-2002 GTs)and just want other potential buyers to be aware because I wasnt.

  • I have a question. - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

I have only had this car about a month. I love it a lot. The low traction light comes on even when it is dry out. It is only brief, it doesnt stay on the whole time, but it comes on when it has no reason to. It still works when it is supposed to. I just need to find out if I should have this checked or if it is normal. Can anyone help me?
