Take heed! - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM
By ravon - December 5 - 10:00 amI am very torn with this car. Replaced rotors at 27K miles that were overtorqued at manufacture. Had to pay for a complete brake job even though the rotors caused premature wear on the pads. Same dealership would not replace my bad radio. Glad that I purchased the extended warranty. Had to use it twice in the last month at 55K miles for almost $3000 in repairs. Both front bearings have been replaced as has strut mount and rack and pinion and a rear control arm. Complained to Pontiac Corp and have basically been told, sorry, at 60,001 miles when my warranty runs out, Im screwed. HOWEVER, when my car is not in the shop or on its way to the shop, I love it.

BAD NEWS - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM
By MARK SCHOLZ - November 25 - 10:00 amBRAKES ARE LIKE DISPOSABLE DIAPERS ON THIS CAR. IF YOU DRIVE IT HARD YOULL PAY. i HAVE SHUDDERING FROM THE FRONT END AS DO MANY OTHER OWNERS. THE ENGINE IS DIFFICULT TO WORK ON. THE SEATS DONT LAST AND YOUR REAR SPOILER WILL FADE QUICKLY. PARTS ARE CHEAP FOR THE CAR SO IF YOURE MECHANICALLY INCLINED AND HAVE THE TIME YOU CAN KEEP IT GOING. IM GLAD I BOUGHT THIS CAR BECAUSE I FORGOT HOW CRAPPY GM CARS WERE AND HAD PLANNED ON BUYING A TAHOE. NOT ANYMORE. THE CAR IS POORLY DESIGNED JUNK. AVOID IT. RESALE ON THE CAR IS PATHETIC.

DRIVES GREAT WHEN NOT IN THE SHOP! - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM
By singer - August 30 - 10:00 amThis car is a mixed bag. When its running, its a great car. But I have had sooo many problems with it. I bot it from Hertz with 28,000 mi. Now has 59,000. Ive had to replace brakes 2 xs (and they still feel weird), 2 altenators, 2 batteries, water pump. The door hinge is broken, the winshield washer tank leaks. There is an oil leak and transmission fluid is leaking. Just traded it in - couldnt take all the time & money in the shop.

GM - NEVER AGAIN! - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM
By "PATTY" OLOUGHLIN - February 23 - 10:00 amVEHICLE NOT BUILT FOR ENDURANCE. PURCHASED IN 12/98. AT 38,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION WENT. GMS ANSWER- YOU SHOULD HAVE PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY! NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM THOUGHT THE LIFE OF THE AUTO. AFTER 3 YEARS AND 120,000 THE ENGINE SEALS WENT RESULTING WITH WATER IN THE OIL. TRADED FOR ANOTHER MANUFACTURER AND GM WILL NEVER SEE ME AGAIN!

Worst car I ever owned - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM
By ManofSteel - February 23 - 10:00 amWe bought our Grand Am new in 99. Had troubles with it from the very begining. Brakes seemed to wear out almost endlessly. Had to replace a caliper just after warrany was up. Wheel bearings needed replaced in the second year wich is just ridiculus. Power widows on each side needed to be replaced twice. Also had to have the car stero CD replaced twice due to malfunction. the ride was very sloppy and bumpy. Engine noise was noticable. Just not a very good car.

Never Again - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM
By KenB - October 28 - 10:36 amThis car was trash almost from the start. Brakes always noisy. Replaced 4 alternators. Drivers window regulator replaced. Water pump replaced twice. Front wheel bearings replaced. Now the intake gasket is leaking. This car and my family will soon part company. I will never buy a Pontiac again. I will think very hard about buying ANY GM product.

grandam it! - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM
By sad owner - October 2 - 12:30 pmThis car is the worst thing ever. Got the car w/105K mi on it back in June 2009. While its got some giddy-up and handles well, its kind of horrible not knowing if/when the brakes are going to fail. Ive had to put a new ABS motor ($2K) in it, and now, less than 6 months later, the whole braking system is shot. And Im not talking about shoes and rotors, which it eats like a kid eats candy. It also runs really hot, esp. in summer weather. The AC doesnt work, and the drivers window keeps falling. Also its an automatic, but cant get it to downshift in to 1st with the shifter, something it should be able to do willingly.

Take my advice! - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM
By wingfan - February 18 - 10:00 amWhere do I begin??? Four months after I bought the car, the power steering went out on me. I have had the power window motor replaced. The alternator is also new. The water pump had to be replaced. And twice now I have had to replace the headgasket. ( Which ran me in the neighborhood of $2,000 EACH time.) The brakes had to be replaced within the first year. And right now it is in the shop because I am having trouble with the transmission. I will never again buy a Pontiac. Plain and simple!!!

99 Grand Am... love it, and hate it. - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM
By maryjane0909 - October 15 - 2:23 pmThe car looks fantastic. Drives great, and its fast...its gotten me a ticket or two. i fell in love with it until about a month after i had it. it hit 100,000 miles about a month ago. it over heats, leaks coolant, and has a security light problem. Often, it only starts when it feels like it. I get stranded on a weekly basis. Also, when the car gets hot, it goes haywire; i lose power steering, i cant accelerate the car, and although the car is still on, it appears to shut down completley....while im still driving it!
