  • My 8-Month Nightmare - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

8 months ago, I bought a Grand Am off my friend at 140,000 miles. Turned out to be the worst decision Ive made since. If I wasnt friends with a mechanic, this car would already be in the scrap pile. Ive had to give it new wiring, a new starter, 2 new engine belts, a new mechanism that turns the engine belt, a new rear arm bar, and I had to remove the horn because it was faulty. The car also has a fuel pressure problem so now I pay out the nose for gas. I hate everything in this car down to the cup holders! Its cars like these that ruined Pontiac. This car is breaking my bank and my patience level. Hopefully getting a new car this week to get rid of this nightmare

  • Nothing but headaches from day one! - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

Purchased this car for my daughter. Have had to do 3 major things that ran over $1,000 to it and now it wont pass emissions. Plastic inside is cheap and cracks easily, headlights are always foggy not matter what we do. Even purchased extra 2 year warrenty, not worth the paper written on. See tons of them on the road always in red. Must of been a popular color that year. I think we got the lemon, should have painted it yellow. Will stick with Chevy or Buicks from now on. Also will have the next one researched. Owning this car is like having a piggy bank you just keep putting money in but never get anything back. It is hopless. 2 more years to pay on, thats the sad part.

  • Look it over - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

I got my Grand AM as a graduations gift for graduating high school. Ive had to replace the brakes 3 times in 6 months, ive had to replace the alternator. Also i wrecked this car doing 40 mph into the back of a minivan and my airbags did not deploy, even though it was totalled the insurance company still fixed it, luckly i had on my seatbelt that did enough damage. My transmission is slipping, and all my parking lights keep going out, also so are my brake lights.. I think that these are awesome looking cars but the mechanical errors need to be fixed!!!

  • Waste of money - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

I had bought this car just shortly after it was released (as a new redesigned model) after reading all these reviews that Pontiac pulled it together and produced a quality vehicle. Boy was I wrong!! Had to replace the brakes twice in the first two years (28k miles after 2years). Power drivers seat broke after 5 months. Outside of that the car was great.....until the 3 year 36k warranty expired. Transmission started slipping, alternator had to be replaced, power steering started leaking. I spent over 3 grand in repairs within 3 months of the warranty expiring.

  • The good and the bad - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

My parents bought this car and they love it once it was given to me about a year and a 1/2 after they bought it the water pump started to leak fluids. When it leaks it makse a shrilly squeak! Ive replaced the battery twice since ive had it! Fuel economy isnt bad. It takes about 35 dollars to fill up and it last about a week or so! The display died on the stereo but the sound is great! The fuse box is hard to open and oil filter leaks when new! Motorized drivers seat broke a year ago and the passenger no longer straightens or lays back

  • Buyer BEWARE - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

Let me name them all if I can remember them all. The driver side window motor had to be replaced, all the door panels had to be replaced because the weather stripping was bubbling, one panel had to be replaced twice the dash board has the same problem. The driver side seat broke twice. The alternator had to be replaced. The serpentine belt has been replaced five times and still squeks. The water pump had to be replaced. The breaks in the front had to be replaced after only 24,000 miles because the caliper stuck. The automatic trunk button broke. The glove box broke. The cooling and heating system now makes funny noises when turned on high.

  • Go with Toyota - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

99 GrandAm purchased used in Feb. 01 in excellent condition (per my mechanic) since, the power windows have been replaced, the water pump, trouble with the breaks, the power mirrors dont work, and the cooling fan sensor has been replaced. It sure looks nice, but overall its not worth the trouble. Im buying a Toyota.

  • Loved it but ready for something new - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

Ive had this car for nearly 4 years! And Ive replaced just about every important part needed for the car to run!! Ive spent over $1000 on my car, not the best but if your willing to have to fixer upper buy this car!! Plus the interior is poor quality, and why brown???

  • A Far Cry from Driving Excitement - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM
    By -

This was my first new car and I was very excited, but in the past 3 years, Ive had too many problems to list. I held onto the car since I had an extended warranty, but when they refuse to honor this telling me that a water leak isnt a manufacturers defect, that is where I draw the line. Too many problems and poor customer service! Driving excitement? I think not!
