Overview & Reviews
Changes for 1997 are few. Supercharged Bonnevilles get a new transmission, a new Delco/Bose premium sound system is optional on the SSE, and the EYE CUE heads-up display has a new motorized adjustment feature. Two new exterior colors, a new interior color and a new interior fabric visually liven up the aging Bonneville.
- Full-size comfort, good value, excellent powertrains, can equip SE like go-faster SSEi for less
- Dated overdone styling

Ah!.. The Bonneville - 1997 Pontiac Bonneville
By Bviller - November 11 - 10:00 amPurchased new. Its been great since day one. It has a smooth comfortable ride without feeling like a boat. Its covered 110,000 miles and still running strong. We had one transmission problem which was repaired under warranty. The water pump started leaking at 102,000 miles. No other repairs. Getting 24mpg in mixed city/highway driving.

1997 Bonneville SE Review - 1997 Pontiac Bonneville
By snowwhite612 - March 23 - 12:20 pmI bought the 1997 40th Anniversary Edition Bonneville SE in 1997. It is loaded with options and has never let me down. It gets great gas mileage too. One area for improvement would be less rattle noise.

Great first car - 1997 Pontiac Bonneville
By bonnevillese4me - July 16 - 10:00 amIve only had this car for a couple of months but so far Ive put almost 2000 miles on it including two trips to Viriginia and just taking it around on everyday trips and it has performed beautifully. This is my first car, and I decided a used car was the way to go, but this car is in such great shape youd never know it was a used car.

Thanks Pontiac - 1997 Pontiac Bonneville
By Loubigfish - February 25 - 2:00 amHi, I purchased this vehicle some years ago and I am very satisfied with the car. Nice styling and lines, reliable and turns heads.... I like the steering wheel controls and the traction suspension. normal wear and tear... only major problem was a belt in the transmission.

86k miles and still feels brand new! - 1997 Pontiac Bonneville
By kandoll - August 31 - 10:00 amWe purchased our Bonnie used with approx. 60k miles. Im impressed with the interior integrity (GMs biggest weakness). We dont have any rattles, squeaks or leaks, and everything still works great. It has plenty of power, even though its not supercharged. I drive fast and am pleased that it rides nice on curvy, hilly, bumpy backroads. It does okay with regular fuel except sometimes the check engine light comes on, mid-grade fuel is the cure.

Amazing car - 1997 Pontiac Bonneville
By BONNE FAN - August 26 - 12:30 amAbsolutely amazing car especially the SLE with all the creature comforts. Steering Wheel radio controls and leather make this car extremely comfortable on the inside while the 205 HP V6 under the hood is more than enough to throw you back in your seat or squeal the tires. Overall it is a very good mixture between sport and luxury and in a 4 door package to make a sport luxury sedan. I have owned 4 of these cars over the last 12 years and I still have all of them if that isnt reliability IDK what is. These engine are bullet proof and currently I have 275,000 miles and still going on my car and it still runs like brand new no ticks or knocks or squeals or anything Best engine EVER!

After 12 years - 1997 Pontiac Bonneville
By David in PA - November 17 - 2:10 amNice looking car, paint still looks great after 12 years. Previously owned a 1988 SSE. Replaced original two position sport struts with Monroe Reflex after 75,ooo miles. Reflexes are great! Avg 16 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. Traction control is nice in snow. Intake manifold gaskets leaked at 55,ooo then again at 102,000 miles. Luckily engine wasnt damaged. Transmission replaced at 75,000 miles because trans yoke body went bad. Car would surge at highway speed when going up a slight incline. Theres a tech bulletin on this but no recall. Overall I really like the car.
