  • Good with 125,000 miles - 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

I bought my Oldsmobile Intrigue with 13,000 miles on it. It has over 125,000 on it now. I have had two problems with it. At 75,000 miles it needed a new A/C compressor and at 110,000 miles it needed a new water pump. It is almost all city miles. I have been very happy with it. Before this I owned a Dodge. It was in the shop all the time. This car goes in once a year for inspection and thats it.

I got the car from my senior citizen parents. It has 36,000 miles on it. It is clean and good driving once in motion. It has a problem with not going into gear out of park when it is cool until the car is warmed up for at least five to eight minutes. No mater how hard I push that shift button, it wont budge. The dealer says "I dont know what it can be just bring it in. Right. But the car itself is very likable. It is bright and with good visibility. If it wasnt for the transmission problem (shifter), Id keep it over my 1995 Cougar, but one has to go and with 127,000 miles the Cougar still purrrs along so Intrigue while its otherwise a very pleasant car has to go.

  • Olds is gone - This car is a good reason - 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

Weve had it now for 5 years and 30k miles. I want to love this car, I really do, but everytime I start to something else breaks!! Here is a sampling of problems Sensor in Transmission;Fuel injector;Intake Manifold; Rear Window motor (Twice);CD player; Warped Brake Rotors (x3 times); Blower motor fan; Water pump; Several broken controls and buttons. Total non- warranty repairs have totaled close to $2k. I do like the styling and ergonomics. It could be a little quiter on the highway but its not bad. The 3800 V-6 makes it fun to drive.

Bought the car new in 99 - mechanics leftover type deal so it had 3400 miles, big deal! I love this car. Has been great! I drive one of the twistiest highways in NY to and from work and never had a problem. Smooth power on the hills, holds the road great. Cup holder holds anything. Live on top of a Mtn and never even put snows on this baby!

Overall a well performing car with good gas mileage. Has the power to pass and go yet still a comfortable ride. Best to get good tires for traction in water and snow. Air conditioning not as strong as it should be. Has been a reliable car since I bought it brand new.

  • One of my favorite cars ever - 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

I love this car. Being 62" I do not fit comfortably in many cars. This car is perfect for me. My 411" wife finds it a bit too large for her taste but still drives it often. I wanted a mid- size domestic car that was as good or better than an import. This is definately the right car. Engine is excellent, I prefer a little tighter cornering but I am also a motorcyclist who is spoiled. The only drawbacks are a lack of adjustable lumber support and although great, I prefer the A/C controls on the import vehicles. I get almost daily compliments and questions about my Intrigue. I would highly recommend this car and am sad that the Olds name will not continue.

  • Loved this car - 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

I bought this car used in 2004, w/45,000 miles. I was used to buying foreign, and remember test driving this when it was new. It was designed to compete with foreign cars, handling and design. Also the 3800 Series II was a temp till the engine they planned for the car was finished. I must say I LOVED THIS CAR from the day I bought it, till I sold it, and wish hadnt. The handling was great, and very similar to foreign. Gas mileage was remarkably good for a 3.8 engine. This engine blows the replacement 3.5 engine (later yrs) away. Much smoother and quieter shifting and ride. Great room, great design. I only wish they still made them. My A/C went too. Otherwise reliable, except normal wear.

  • Fun to Drive and ASTOUNDING Reliability - 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

We bought this car new and have been absolutely ecstatic with our purchase ever since. The car is very comfortable, handles well, is fun to drive, seats 5 comfortably, and has been surprisingly reliable. With 115,000 miles on it since purchased in 11/1997, we have had to perform a grand total of 2 (two) repairs other than routine maintenance. The starter had to be replaced at around 60,000 miles and at 110,000, the automatic headlight sensor was replaced. The fuel-door release button popped off a few years ago and was never found (fortunately I can stick my pinky in and trigger the release), and the electric window control panel on the armrest has been loose almost since new.

This is one of the best cars ever made. I love it. It has gotten me off icy hills with its great peformance and power. I avoided several wrecks I know I wouldnt have avoided in a different car.
