  • Mixed Emotions - 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

I love the way the car handles as well as its looks. However, I have had many reoccuring problems when it comes to cosmetics. First problem I had on many occasions is the bubbling of the leather on the door panels. They were replaced on a few occasions while under warantee, again Im having the problem. I have also had the windows sticking to the rubber which has broken the motors of the electric windows both during and now after the warantee has expired. I have already replaced the motors on both front doors and am now replacing the rear drivers. The replacement costs are an outrageous $400 each. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A GENERAL MOTORS VEHICLE AGAIN.

  • Trans failed at 11,000 - 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

The transmission failed at 11,000 miles. I bought a new GM replacement which they will guarantee for 100,000 miles or 3 hears. It wasnt under warranty because it was in a garage for 10 years, so it cost me over $4000. The AC motor leaks and the dealer couldnt find the tool to replace it. But it drives well and smoothly and handles very well for a GM car.

  • Fine Overall Reliability! - 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

This car has fine overall reliability. It is one of the very best cars Ive ever owned! It provides an excellent combination of style, comfort, performance, and good gas mileage. Its build quality could have been better (door and hood alignment). One problem Ive had (a common one according to my mechanic) is with the plastic intake manifold. I had to replace it because it had "bubbles" between the coolant ports and the air/gas intake (fortunately no leak of coolant into the air/gas intake at the time it was found out which could have been disasterous driving at highway speeds!). I wrote to GM but got no satisfaction! It is really an engineering design flaw! I pop the hood whenever I can now to let out the heat!

  • Good car, just short of great - 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

Bought car used, 36K in 2001, one owner, clearly had kids, excellent condition. Car has good pickup off the line and will move fairly well when gassed in the 60-75 mph range. When going about 25-30 mph, you step on the gas and either the car mildly accelerates or takes off, full throttle, no in between. Stock sound system is fair. Plenty of trunk room but a small opening to get anything in there. Air conditioner electrics broke after a couple of months, cost $2000 to fix at dealer, thank you to extended warranties... Cheap plastic parts on radio. Relatively rough ride. Roomy interior for 5 mid sized adults.

  • You Decide - 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

I purchased my Oldsmobile Intrigue 2 1/2 years ago with 60,000 miles on it. I had no problems with it (just normal routine maintenance) until we got over 100,000 miles. The power windows and windshield wipers have ceased to work. I am an extreme neat freak and wash and detail the car at least once ever two weeks, but the interior leather on the door is beginning to peel off. The cassette player eats any tapes we insert. The CD player, when driving, becomes abnormally hot and the factory speakers have blown. The car has begun to stutter when I hit the gas. We have gone through brakes like a fat kid goes through twinkie boxes. But, we have driven this car over 20,000 miles a year since we bought it. The interior is quiet, if you have the right tires.

  • Pleasantly Surprised - 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

Got the Intrigue in Nov of 2001 with 32000 miles on it, its got 54000 now. Was looking for a used car, hadnt really considered and Olds. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised upon test driving this one. The 3800 series II cranks out plenty of oomph when you need it. Weve only had one problem with it so far, the idler/tensioner pulley failed - cost about 40$ to repair. Gas mileage always surprises me for the size of engine/car it is. Usually around 25-27 mpg on avg. Stereo sounds great, seats are comfy. I like the overrideable traction control feature.

Other than routine maintance, my Oldsmobile Intrigue has been a champ through long trips and city stop and go driving. I had back surgery and this is the most comfortable car that I have ever sat in. The power is incredible for this style car and with the airbag system I feel safe. The sound system is awesome, it has the OEM sound Ive heard - and Im a sound man and electrician. My son is comfortable and safe in this car and that makes the differnce. It also has trunk space for many long trips. It saddens me that GM decided to stop the Oldsmobile line because if they came out with a new Intrigue I would buy it. Mine now has nearly 130,000 miles on it, but Im sure she has a lot of miles left.

  • Decent Car - 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

Bought my 98 Intrigue at 64,000 in May of 09, got a great deal on it from the dealership I worked at. Old guy owned it before, hardly drove it. After owning it a year and a half it is still a nice car. The interior has held up nicely. 3 of the 4 power window motors went out due to car being from TX, lots of dust and dirt in the track caused windows to fall out of tracks. Replaced serpentine belt at 72k. Quarter panels seem to dent very easily with the slightest impact. Currently has 87k on it and everything is going well! Paint holds up, electric system, brakes.. ride is very smooth and pretty quiet for being 12 years old. All around nice car for the average driver.
