Overview & Reviews
The '02 Lancer is Mitsubishi's replacement for its Mirage economy car, though the Mirage continues this year in coupe format only. The chief reason for the new name (for the U.S., as the car has always been called the Lancer elsewhere) is Mitsubishi's desire to emphasize that the Lancer is more upscale, larger and better-engineered than the old Mirage.
- Large interior, classy exterior styling, many standard features.
- O-Z model lacks performance to back up looks, side airbags and antilock brakes available only on LS trim, no available engine upgrade.

Great car - 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer
By murky - May 18 - 7:26 amI got into a wreck in this vehicle in the mountains of Virginia, and I must say, 10+ on crash rating. Completely protected me, AND the front end absorbed so much of the impact, that beyond the front fenders there was NO damage! Unfortunately, it was deemed totaled, but this car saved me in an accident.

Bang for Buck - 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer
By Carknut - April 19 - 11:30 amActually, this car is just a solid deal all around. Hands down better than any other compact on the road. I have driven it 12,000 miles in the last 5 months - averaged 360 miles per tank, love the seats, and overall ride. The best thing for performance in this car is the automatic tranny (wish I had a manual though). The auto is perfectly mated to the engine, so that it effectively uses the entire power range. I love driving the car, and I have no regerts with it. Youd be smart to pick one up.

ENGINE KNOCK - 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer
By stargazer32 - April 7 - 2:00 amI for the most part enjoy the car, but after 6000 miles I have a engine knock when cold the dealer says its the injectors that are making the noise...yeah right this is the same dealership that scratched the heck out of the right front alloy wheel then saying they didnt do it cause they have no curbs..hum I will see just how good Mitsubishi Corp will handle the complaint. Will wait and see if they stand behind the customer or thier franchise owners.

Nice car... - 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer
By dover513 - February 13 - 10:00 amWe bought this vehicle after a terrible accident my wife, daughter, and I were in. The first thing we noticed was the design, which is a little different from some of the other cars out there. The other thing we noticed was the zip- factor... This car has a decent amount of torque and the adaptive shift control transmission is ourstanding. The ride is great, just like others have said, this car handles edxtremely well! IT IS ONE OF THE FUNNEST VEHICLES I HAVE DRIVEN. I will be buying another on for myself as soon as out budget permits...

This car will be missed if it ever dies! - 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer
By cynbaby - January 18 - 10:36 amThis has been the only car to ever outlive a car loan. It is still going and still has great gas mileage. The reason why performance is not a ten is because it has slowed slightly in its old age due to the fact that I beat it up. Only basic maintenance has been done because thats all it ever needed. I am quite surprised since it is a first year model. I have never had to doubt my safety in it and have off roaded in it despite the fact that its a sedan. I dont even avoid pot holes and after five years, still great suspension! I get roughly 32-33 miles to the gallon w/126,000 miles and counting. I will cry when I retire it.

Its all that I could expect it to be - 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer
By Mr Mark - January 16 - 1:33 amI bought this car out of necessity. I really dont like the exterior styling much. I added 18" custom wheels, which made it look much better. The stock tires are tiny. The interior is bland but functionality-wise is great. A lot of interior space for a small car. The car has been very reliable. Ive had zero major problems. Engine-wise the only thing Ive had to replace is one ignition coil, which wasnt too costly. The car doesnt have much muscle - slightly more horses than a Civic - but its what youd expect for this class of car. I really like the stock sound system. Its fairly loud and clear, and after over 3 years still sounds the same as when I bought the car.

Like my lancer!!! - 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer
By aerialcombat - December 12 - 10:00 amBeen driving my white lancer oz for about 3 weeks now. Got it for 16,500. and I must say i love it! The thing i love the most is the look of it. Most of the people get the yellow oz, but I got a white one, but i do not regret it. The car is smooth, and sexy. I love it.

By rallyrally - November 1 - 9:13 amAll in all this is a great car. Good gas mileage and fun to drive especially when every one thinks your an Evo or something. Inside is simple nothing catchy but easy to use and comfortable. Sound system is great! This car is safe too! I wrecked it and the only thing wrong with it is the body! Ill miss this car!
