Overview & Reviews
The '02 Lancer is Mitsubishi's replacement for its Mirage economy car, though the Mirage continues this year in coupe format only. The chief reason for the new name (for the U.S., as the car has always been called the Lancer elsewhere) is Mitsubishi's desire to emphasize that the Lancer is more upscale, larger and better-engineered than the old Mirage.
- Large interior, classy exterior styling, many standard features.
- O-Z model lacks performance to back up looks, side airbags and antilock brakes available only on LS trim, no available engine upgrade.

Great car for its class - 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer
By rhannah - May 19 - 6:46 amI love the car so far, it handles well, its spunkier than the reviews give it, it has a fantastic roomy & classy interior too. I dont feel like I own a compact "economy" car at all. I also have yet to see one in my city, which makes it feel even more unique, instead of the dozens of Hyundias running around.

Nice, but watch the paint! - 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer
By deligreen - May 10 - 10:00 amI just purchased my OZ a few weeks ago. The cosmetic problems have been associated with the side skirts. The passenger side is not flush and needed to be replaced, and the top corners of both have to be repainted already. The paint on the skirts is already chipping. The radiator needed to be replaced because it was slowly leakingfluid. The only other problem, is that I find that the gears will grind everyonce in awhile even with the clutch all the way depressed. I think this may be just because of a new transmition.

Fun small car - 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer
By kadielle - February 28 - 10:00 amI love my Lancer as a small car. The exhaust valve had to be replaced after a year and a half, but it was still running great and the service engine light came on to indicate a problem. I love the turning radius. 2 adults can fit comfortably in the back seat for several hours. Great road trip car except the trunk is kinda small.

2002 Mitsubishi Lancer OZ - 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer
By jim&Kim - February 16 - 2:00 amSo far very reliable. Broke in at roughly 25,000 miles, and gas mileage and performance improved. Runs out smoothly to 5000 RPM. No maintenance problems, however there was a "toe-in" front and back from the factory, causing premature wear on the tires outer edges.

Disappointed - 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer
By ksdclan - February 9 - 5:13 pmWe loved our Mitsubishi Lancer until we found out that once we recked the vehicle in an accident that the air bag did not go off. Our vehicle was totaled in the accident. The whole front of the car was torn in half and sqished into the front tires and the air bag never deploied. I am dissappointed in the car.
