This Year's Model Updates:

For their second season in the U.S. market, the 2003 Mini Cooper and Cooper S will now come with a second remote key and pre-wiring for a dealer-installed alarm system. Anthracite (smoke gray, that is) interior trim is available as a no-cost option for both cars, and the Cooper S is eligible for the high-gloss silver interior treatment found in the base Cooper. Sound systems will be satellite radio-ready this year, and the rear cargo area now has a power point.

Pros:
  • The thrill of owning a piece of history with modern underpinnings, BMW-engineered suspension and steering, chock full of comfort and safety features, hatchback utility, scheduled maintenance on-the-house for 3 years/36,000 miles.
Cons:
  • Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, price goes up quickly with options, limited supply encourages dealer mark-up.

  • Perfect City Car - 2003 Mini Cooper

The Mini has been an absolute dream to drive and own. Its performance and handling on tough NYC roads is fabulous, and although Ive read some reviews that complain about its power, Ive never found it lacking in the least. Additionally, the quality of the interior and exterior design is excellent. I couldnt be happier with the purchase.

  • I love my MINI - 2003 Mini Cooper

My experience with my MINI has been the best experience I have ever had with a vehicle. I grew up in a car family, My fauther ownes several dealerships, and I have driven just about everything under the SUN. It is rare for me to keep a car longer than six months but I dont plan on giving this car up any time soon.

I use this as my daily commuter, year-round in Chicago winter driving with a 20+ mile commute on local roads (lots of stop-and-go). Other than a few interior squeaks from the dash, I have little complaint. I cant find another economy car that can be equipped as nicely and handle solid on slippery roads and high winds. When it comes to running errands, city driving/parking (even grocery runs) for 6 years we always gravitate to the Mini. Only major repair: I had the fuel injector replaced at 70K. Drawbacks are that its a high-strung breed - higher revs, noisier on the highways and a bouncy ride on rough roads. Be prepared if youre a big coffee drinker -- you will need a good, no-spill mug

Fun to drive period. Have a few cars - but this hands down is the most fun. Downside is it only gets 29 mpg.

Pickup our Cooper S PS/W this April. You know all those problems that MINI owners gripe about on forums? Well, almost all of that happened to us. Lets see yoyo/surging/ stalling, new transmission, windshield changed, paint blotches and uneven, oh, and the rattles! OH MY GOD, the RATTLES! If this is what they describe as spirited driving count me out!

1st new car, 1st stick--fabulous experience! The S is quite easy for novice manual-drivers (though refinement of technique will absolutely yield increasing excitement). Fit n finish is wonderful, Ive heard not a rattle nor had a leak since purchase. 4.5 months old, 8700+ miles so far I couldnt be happier. MINIUSA still has some issues to work out (windscreen fractures and software performance, in my experience) but lets keep in mind that its only in its 2nd full production year--these are to be expected.

A fantasticly fun way to get around. Unique styling, coupled with good performance and handling, and modern aesthetics, makes this one of the best overall cars Ive driven in my 33 years on the road. Its a car equally at home in town or on the open road. It excells on curvey, back roads. If oyure looking for quick 0 to 60 times, look elsewhere, but for everything else, theres the MINI.

  • Motoring is Fun! - 2003 Mini Cooper

As a person who formerly used her vehicles merely to get from Point A to Point B, my driving inclinations in the year I have had my MINI have changed dramatically. Its FUN to get in the car and zip around town on errands, or on the highway to other cities. Will anyone mistake me for Charlize Theron? I dont think so, but I can pretend!

  • What a BLAST - 2003 Mini Cooper

This car is a blast to drive, period! I have driven a very wide variety of vehicles over the year and in terms of pure fun-to-drive, this car is off the map. Sure, its got some quirks. It is, after all a joint German/British venture so thats to be expected. But never before have the positives so far outweighed the negatives, at least in my mind.
