This Year's Model Updates:

For their second season in the U.S. market, the 2003 Mini Cooper and Cooper S will now come with a second remote key and pre-wiring for a dealer-installed alarm system. Anthracite (smoke gray, that is) interior trim is available as a no-cost option for both cars, and the Cooper S is eligible for the high-gloss silver interior treatment found in the base Cooper. Sound systems will be satellite radio-ready this year, and the rear cargo area now has a power point.

Pros:
  • The thrill of owning a piece of history with modern underpinnings, BMW-engineered suspension and steering, chock full of comfort and safety features, hatchback utility, scheduled maintenance on-the-house for 3 years/36,000 miles.
Cons:
  • Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, price goes up quickly with options, limited supply encourages dealer mark-up.

its a fun ride--quite exhilarating. i love the engine sound--very powerful despite being a 4-cylinder. in the beginning, the car was quite shaky..but after a few miles on the road..it got better. i love to ride it--showing it off to my friends. even though it is a small car, it seems to have a lot of power. i can actually park this car in ease--anywhere..very nice car! most of all, i like it cuz it resembles so much of me..very unique.

I absolutely love driving my Mini. It is the most fun car out on the road, and I get a lot of attention. Not only is it red and black, but I have had racing wheels added, red tint, a custom alarm, the whole works...I recommend this car to everyone =)

  • Mini Cooper is the most fun car outhere! - 2003 Mini Cooper

I fell in love with this car from the first sight and my love keeps growing since I bought it. It is fun to drive, everybodys looking at you and smiling, but at the same time it is not VW Beetle, cute and all. Mini has an agresive character and is build based on the bulldog which is very much visible.

  • Crash review - 2003 Mini Cooper

My MINI was involved in a rear-end collision yesterday and help up fabulously. She took the rear impact like a champ, she only needs the bumper and muffler replaced. One thing that did concern me is my driver seat performance. Upon initial impact, it moved down towards the floorboard (seats go back, forward, up, and down) and as the seat back went forward from this it jammed into my lower back when I was pulled into the seat upon impact. I substantially injured my lower back right below my lumbar and have filed a claim with MINI, they agreed that this may be a problem in the future since crash tests were not done on the seats for rear-impact collisions. Other than that I love her to pieces!

The MINI is a breakthrough car for the U.S. and finally may make smaller cars fashionable. Its refreshing to get real sports car handling in an average priced car. After about 2500 miles, Im still looking for a chance to try the great high-rpm acceleration that was a blast in the demo, but this is my car now and I baby it a bit.

  • Nashville S a delight - 2003 Mini Cooper
    By -

My S was one of the first to arrive in Nashville, having had placed a deposit in May of 2001. My first new car, my first stick shift, and my first sports car - 8 months and 11k mikes and Ive never regretted my decision to purchase, sight unseen, the MINI Cooper S. As fun as it is to drive, its also amazing to see the reaction it still gets from onlookers. If for some reason I had to give it up and pick another car today it might be another color or have a different list of options than what I have now, but itd still be a MINI Cooper S. The most fun I have ever had with a car in my life and I love it!

The new MINI definatly has the spirit of the old mini. It performs better and you do not have to work on it every week end. The downside is that with all the new electronic gadgets and improvements, there is a price to pay. My MINI has been in the shop several times for "little" things.

  • Pip Pip Rules the Road - 2003 Mini Cooper
    By -

Our Mini is called Pip Pip! This is absolutely the most fun-to-drive car on the road! With the DSC stability control this car cherishes the curves in a twisty road. With the Six speed gearbox it insures that the pizza delivery boy is left behind at the stoplights(My wifes true experiences!) If you keep your foot out of the engine your gas mileage is about 34 mpg on the road and about 22 in town. We have had some nigglies - fogged up rear passenger taillight, defective power steering pump and a leak on the rear moonroof quarter panel that stained the headliner. All items repaired at no cost - and with a smile by Brecht MINI in Escondido!
