This Year's Model Updates:

Both 2004 Mini Cooper trims offer a new three-spoke leather sport steering wheel. A rear power socket returns as a standard item, and beige leather sport seats are now available. A digital speedometer readout has been added to the electronic display, and an instantaneous fuel-consumption function has been added to its on-board computer.

Pros:
Cons:
  • Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, some low-grade interior materials.

A delight to drive. I have owned several BMWs and Saabs, including turbos and convertibles (as well as an original Cooper S) and this car is more fun to drive than any of them. Can hold four adults, including ny 6 foot son in the back seat, but I think of it as a two seater with good cargo space -- which is pretty good with seats up or down.

Very easy to handle, automatic transmission is good, a little slow from a dead stop, but makes up for it after 3000rpm. We frequently have 3 large to med adults in the car and comfort is good for rear passenger 2/3 hours driving time. Front seats are excellent and fabulously adjustable! Im always surprized at how small the car is from the outside, it seems much larger from the inside when driving, although it handles like a sports car.

I have owned a 2003 and then a 2004 MINI Cooper S - I was given the 2004 by the factory because the self adjusting headlights on the 03 didnt self adjust! This is the total of the faults I have had in the two cars. Against this I have had more fun in this car than any car I have owned including Triumphs, MGs, Porches, Toyotas, various GM products, and an Alfa Spyder - well more fun except possibly the 1967 Mini Cooper 1275S - but then that car doesnt have ANY of the amenities that the New MINI has. It has super gas mileage along with wonderful performance and street handling that is out of this world. I have no hesitation at all in recommending this car to anyone that likes driving!

Excellent in every way thus far. Mileage not as great as expected, but get 30+MPG on long trips with high speeds averaging 65mph over 1000 mile runs. At this point, the best made car I have ever owned..and that includes Porsche, Ferrari, Ford, Chevy, range Rover, Cadillac and others.

You cant walk past this thing without smiling, and you dont get out of it without a huge ear to ear grin. Just like the first time you drove a go- kart as a kid.

The Mini Cooper S in my opinion is the best auto in the $20K range for those who like performance. The fact that the S only comes with a manual transmission and that they felt the need to tweak the suspension on the firm side despite its go-kart proportions tells you that this car means business. Of course the build quality is typical of what you would expect from BMW. For those who want performance yet cant afford a true sports car should certainly check out the MINI Cooper S. I personally see it as a stepping stone to my future M3.

I had been watching with great anticipation the BMW development of the Mini. I brought my Cooper S last year, and it has met all of my expectations! The performance is excellent, and the handling on mountain roads makes it pure fun to drive. The styling carries on the Mini tradition with an agressive stance and it gets plenty of looks. But the best thing is the pleasure I get driving it and the waves I get from other drivers as I zip through traffic, or just cruise up the coast.

I am a car nut and have driven many cars. The MINI Cooper S is the most fun car that I have ever driven by far. I love the handling, fit & finish, styling, & performance. The Harmon Kardon stereo rocks!

Debated for months about spending the extra 6k for a works kit. I finally did it and now I regret it... Why? Because after putting in 312 miles of "twistys" today my face hurts (from the smile that never left my face) and my neck is sore (from my head snapping back every time I levered the pedal that make this rocket rip!) If you have been on the fence about this option, hop off and spend the money because it doesnt get any better than this!

I have driven every worthwhile vehicle under $100,000 and can honestly say that I have never had as much fun maneuvering through traffic. The BMW suspension is noticeable, very similar to that of the 3-Series. Also, the steering feels great, and this vehicle offers a BMW experience for a Honda price. In my personal opinion, you wont find a better car for $20,000.
