This Year's Model Updates:

For their second season in the U.S. market, the 2003 Mini Cooper and Cooper S will now come with a second remote key and pre-wiring for a dealer-installed alarm system. Anthracite (smoke gray, that is) interior trim is available as a no-cost option for both cars, and the Cooper S is eligible for the high-gloss silver interior treatment found in the base Cooper. Sound systems will be satellite radio-ready this year, and the rear cargo area now has a power point.

Pros:
  • The thrill of owning a piece of history with modern underpinnings, BMW-engineered suspension and steering, chock full of comfort and safety features, hatchback utility, scheduled maintenance on-the-house for 3 years/36,000 miles.
Cons:
  • Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, price goes up quickly with options, limited supply encourages dealer mark-up.

This car is amazing. The interior space is ideally only for 2 people, but it does not feel like you are in a small car. The steering is tight and very responsive as there is no play in the wheel. If you move it a little, you go that way. The ride is rough, but in a sporty way. I can see that some may not find it comfortable. The six speed manual requires some effort too. The amazing thing is the handling. It speeds through corners with no body roll or any sense that you might loose control. Eventhough it is a small car, I feel very safe and confortable. Now if I can just find enough excuses to go out and drive somewhere...

I drive this vehicle daily on the German autobahn. There are no speed limits, I generally cruise at 110 MPH. I recently entered an amatuer drag race with professional timing equipment and clocked a 14.4 second quarter mile from a dead stop. I also have not found a vehicle that can be purchased in the U.S. that can keep up with me on winding roads. Although it is not a family car, I can take my wife and baby on a day trip with stroller. I was also able to pack complete camping gear for a weekend in the back with the seats down, to include large cooler, tent, folding chairs and two crates of dried foods and miscellaneous beverages.

Im ecstatic about my MINI since Im a long time British car enthusiast and have been waiting for the opportunity to buy a new cheap and cheerful car from England for years. So far its more reliable than my classic British car and gets as much attention. Handling and braking are superb, but the engine could use more lower RPM power. CVT transmission performs well. Cold weather package and sport seats highly recommended.

  • The best car on the roads! - 2003 Mini Cooper

This is the best car I have ever driven. The ride is great. The handeling could not be more perfect. Also when the car starts the engine sounds so nice. No upgraded muffler system is needed on this car. The back seat is a little tight to be in for a long time, but the front is very comfortable. The speedometer is not as hard to read as one might think. It is an excellent car for anyone to drive.

  • Leaky A pillar - 2003 Mini Cooper

Great car ... watch out for the water leak down the A pillar on the drivers side. From my experience it appears the problem is showing up with more frequency. It seems some idiot in the factory has been forgetting to attach the sunroof drain hose inside the headliner. My car leaked extensively during the first rain storm. The dealers and Mnin are now aware of the problem, which is a quick fix. However, it may take several days to dry out the carpeting.

  • Perfect City Car - 2003 Mini Cooper

The Mini has been an absolute dream to drive and own. Its performance and handling on tough NYC roads is fabulous, and although Ive read some reviews that complain about its power, Ive never found it lacking in the least. Additionally, the quality of the interior and exterior design is excellent. I couldnt be happier with the purchase.

My experience with my MINI has been the best experience I have ever had with a vehicle. I grew up in a car family, My fauther ownes several dealerships, and I have driven just about everything under the SUN. It is rare for me to keep a car longer than six months but I dont plan on giving this car up any time soon.
