Overview & Reviews
For their second season in the U.S. market, the 2003 Mini Cooper and Cooper S will now come with a second remote key and pre-wiring for a dealer-installed alarm system. Anthracite (smoke gray, that is) interior trim is available as a no-cost option for both cars, and the Cooper S is eligible for the high-gloss silver interior treatment found in the base Cooper. Sound systems will be satellite radio-ready this year, and the rear cargo area now has a power point.
- The thrill of owning a piece of history with modern underpinnings, BMW-engineered suspension and steering, chock full of comfort and safety features, hatchback utility, scheduled maintenance on-the-house for 3 years/36,000 miles.
- Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, price goes up quickly with options, limited supply encourages dealer mark-up.

Cool, Fun Machine - 2003 Mini Cooper
By rex - December 23 - 2:00 amFor what this car is worth, its well worth it. The built quality in the fit & finish of the car is superior than other cars in the same price range. What car out there can you find for $17K that has 6 airbags and free maintenance. Its a NO BRAINER!!

Recommend With Reservations - 2003 Mini Cooper
By Steve Doman - December 8 - 11:33 pmExcellent combination of driving fun and mileage. While the main components seem sturdy, there have been minor flaws--such as a shift knob that flaked apart, driver seat broke after 2 weeks, cooling fan didnt shut off, etc. While these are relatively minor issues, they carry more weight when the closest dealer is 30 miles away! I would recommend only if one has access to another vehicle for emergencies. Its not unlike having a really hot looking babe; one overlooks certain flaws or inconveniences for the pleasures involved.

This is one fun car! - 2003 Mini Cooper
By DavidCX - November 4 - 10:00 amIts not the fastest car out there, but it certainly one of the most fun to drive! It handles better than any car Ive ever driven in stock form. You find yourself taking lots of detours just to get on a windy road rather than a straight on. Could use a little more power though, especially low end torque. Unfortunately, the dealers are only getting a very limited supply of JCW kits. Some people complain about the noise and harsh ride of the 17" wheels w/ runflats, but I dont think its that bad.

Year Old MINI - 2003 Mini Cooper
By bmwnutty - November 4 - 10:00 amThis was a very early US MINI, delivered the first day they were available for sale, but it has been absolutely flawless. It is our commuter car so it has seen primarily highway mileage, but has had no warranty claims and has needed nothing but oil changes. Quality is excellent; would definetly buy another one.

DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!!! - 2003 Mini Cooper
By AMH - October 30 - 10:00 amMy CVT Mini Cooper stalls while driving.I was struck from behind but received no damage. One week later, the car died and wouldnt restart. The same day I picked it up from service, the car died 3 times in 2 hours! My car also gets abysmal city gas mileage -17/18. Dealer has been highly unhelpful, stating they couldnt reproduce the problem and expressing no remorse or concern over our safety.6 of the 7 complaints on the NHTSA website deal with the EXACT SAME PROBLEM.In these reports, dealers state they cannot reproduce the problem.I dont feel safe driving any Mini until this problem is solved.

The Ride of Your LIFE - 2003 Mini Cooper
By DEEZNUTZ - September 28 - 4:23 amThe 2003 MINI Cooper S is incredible! The styling is on par with exotic cars (Im the only one in the area with one and I get stares all the time). The headlights are awesome. I love the button posistions. When Im in 6th gear it the Cooper S still has great acceleration.

Street Legal Go-Kart - 2003 Mini Cooper
By tcchadwell - August 24 - 5:26 pmBought my 03 S used last year with only 25k miles. Runs and looks like new. Great paint job (British racing green). Gets lots of looks wherever I go. My daughter wants me to keep it for her (10 years until she drives thank goodness). Two friends have one as well and we have all been happy with them. Lots of local owner clubs around metro areas too. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a truly enjoyable car to drive. I look forward to going fo a spin every time. Resale value is at the top of all vehicles made today. Good gas mileage too.
