This Year's Model Updates:

For their second season in the U.S. market, the 2003 Mini Cooper and Cooper S will now come with a second remote key and pre-wiring for a dealer-installed alarm system. Anthracite (smoke gray, that is) interior trim is available as a no-cost option for both cars, and the Cooper S is eligible for the high-gloss silver interior treatment found in the base Cooper. Sound systems will be satellite radio-ready this year, and the rear cargo area now has a power point.

Pros:
  • The thrill of owning a piece of history with modern underpinnings, BMW-engineered suspension and steering, chock full of comfort and safety features, hatchback utility, scheduled maintenance on-the-house for 3 years/36,000 miles.
Cons:
  • Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, price goes up quickly with options, limited supply encourages dealer mark-up.

This is the best automobile, I have ever owned, period.

I was able to love my MINI from the day I ordered it, thanks to MINI USAs convenient web order-tracking. I have never regretted this car purchase, this being the first time I can say that about ANY car. Daisy is a joy to drive, and we have done so across more than twenty states, with pets and luggage in-tow. Glad I sprang for the sport package, as it adds to the giddiness of the drive. Also glad I sprang for the cold weather package in this Midwestern climate--and its also great for cramps! The mileage could be better; I average around 30 with a combo of city and highway driving. Overall, the best investment I ever made, and a big smile to myself whenever I see it in the garage!

I have had mine for 5 yrs. Just made my first repair tonight for $131. I kept up my maintenence and its paid off. No problems what-so-ever. I have had 2 wear & tear replacements that I would consider normal. New brakes put on last year (bought them from online site & had local mechanic put on for much less than dealer) and am on my 3rd set of run-flat tires, also purchased from online site. Shipped to my house and put on at mechanics shop. At 107,000 miles, several friends are in a bidding war to buy mine when I upgrade in about a year. How many cars have that kind of draw? Everytime I think I will go back to a regular car, I drive a regular car and go running back to my MINI!

I bought this as a commuter car for its great gas mileage and optional equipment. You absolutely cannot equip any other car in this class with features like the Mini. If you live in a cold climate, the optional winter package is a no-brainer, and go for the Sport Package with Stability Control. The car is rock solid on slippery roads and highways, and responds to every muscle twitch of the steering wheel which might take some getting used to. Ive continued to get close to its EPA rating, especially if you keep the speed below 70 MPH. The car will drive fast, but the tach runs high and eats up gas. This is not a family car - its perfect for 2-person weekend trips and daily commutes.

I got my MINI Cooper S a few weeks ago and I am still absolutely in love with it. Unfortunately, when I got it, there was a little dash rattle. The techs at that particular dealership couldnt identify it (not a Mini dealer). So now I have to make an appointment at my local Mini dealer to remedy the situation. Other than that issue, I dont have any problems.

Whatever you do - Dont go for a drive in the MINI after watching a Formula 1 race on TV - The temtation is too great! The 2003 MINI Cooper S is an absolute ball to drive. When you experiance the oneness that you and your MINI attain even in a short drive you will never feel the same about a car again. Just THINK about turning and you are there - no lean, no tire squeel, just performance. You will find that you will look for the twisty roads instead of the freeways. When you do want to accelerate the MINI does a comendable job with a 0 to 60 under 7 seconds. A super neat little automobile for everyone!
