This Year's Model Updates:

The big news for the 2005 Mini Cooper is the arrival of the convertible in both regular and S flavors. Stylish as ever, the drop-top Mini seats four and still has a trunk big enough for a few bags. Other changes include slightly revised front and rear fascias and some reworked option choices. The vanity mirrors are no longer illuminated, a universal remote transmitter is now available and a leather-wrapped steering wheel is now standard. The S version gains 5 horsepower and 7 pound-feet of torque, as well as an external temperature display. Both the five- and six-speed manual transmissions feature shorter gearing this year to improve acceleration. A six-speed automatic transmission will become available on the S versions later in the model year.

Pros:
Cons:
  • Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, some low-grade interior materials.

I just bought the car, but I love how it handles and how good it is on gas for me.

I sold my beloved BMW M3 to get this car, so I had high expectations for this car as a daily driver and weekend track car. I have not been disappointed. The car is solid in every way, quick, and sticks like glue. I continue to be impressed as time goes on, and understand why so many people own more than one and sell theirs to buy another one. wow! What a car.

I have now had my Mini for 6 months. I live in Ohio and was impressed with how well it handled in snow and ice. I also like that everything I need is at my fingertips ie heat, air, audio, mirrors, convertible, etc. The shifting is as smooth as butter. I had not driven a shift in nearly 15 years, it came right back and was soooooo easy. As far as fun, I cant think of a word that can describe fully how much fun it is to drive. The top goes up and down w/in 10 second with the touch of one button. When you roll all the windows up and the top is down you d ont get too much wind. If you have a long commute, it is not very comfortable, other than that I think it is one great little car!!

Fun to drive with plenty of performance. Other than having to replace the drivers side window regulator our Mini has performed perfectley. Very comfortable and stable at 90 to 100 MPH, and still gets 25 plus miles per gallon. Great in traffic, with the 6 speed gear box you can match RPMs at any speed for a good ride. The traction control is a waste and can be dangrous if you forget to turn it off especially under hard braking or when you put some lateral Gs on her. This is the best new car Ive bought for the price, ever. If you want a car that really makes you smile, buy a Mini...

I had a 2003 MINI Cooper S and decided to trade up for a cabrio S model. The 2005 is a vastly better car. MINI has really worked on improving their build quality. If you owned a tin-top MINI, you will feel the extra weight of the cabrio when cornering, but it isnt too objectionable. Nits - Rearward visibility, top up or down isnt too good. The new cup holder on the center stack squeaks Picks - Convertible top. Absolutely awesome. Very well built and very versitile. Revised shift linkage / gear ratios are spot-on. Resale value - you wont find ANY car in this price range that holds its value as well as MINI.

WE ACTUALLY HAVE A 2005 MODEL BUT PICKED IT UP THIS MONTH. SO FAR THIS LITTLE CAR HAS BEEN FUN TO DRIVE AND HAS NOT GIVEN US ANY PROBLEMS. THE BASE MODEL, WHICH IS WHAT WE HAVE, SEEMS TO HAVE GOOD POWER, THOUGH IT IS NOT THE FASTEST 4 CYL. OUT THERE, IT STILL MANAGES TO DO THE JOB.

I love this car so much (I am a sales estimator for a remodeling company) that I made a custom protective bag to carry my ladder in the back, purchased bags and gear to hold all my samples, and I have a portable navigation system. I live and breathe in my MINI. I drive the heck out of it on appointments, and on weekends I hang out and go on drives with other MINI maniacs! I went to Casino Morongo last weekend and am going to Vegas in a week and a half. I have had two Chevrolet Corvettes, and my MINI may not be as fast, but it handles far better! I am getting 28 mpg con ity roads which I think is great as Im always stopping and going. Theres no need for a gas hog like a Hummer. Minis are classically in and they hold their value.

I love this car! It is a blast to drive. I wouldnt take it on a long trip, but around town it is great fun. The convertible is really cool. The seats have warmers in them if your sidekick gets cold. The interior is very retro, very cool! Go and test drive one and I guarantee youll want one. It is a little bit high on the price for the S Convertible, but it is worth the money. If only my wife would let me drive it more! People often will yell at us while we are in the car "Cool Car!". And, it is.

Went in for an oil change on our Mini (2003) and drove out with a Cool Blue convertible sports car.

the car is very nice, and it handles like a car should. it is very easy going on the fuel, and it has the pick up and go that you need to have to drive defensively
