This Year's Model Updates:

For their second season in the U.S. market, the 2003 Mini Cooper and Cooper S will now come with a second remote key and pre-wiring for a dealer-installed alarm system. Anthracite (smoke gray, that is) interior trim is available as a no-cost option for both cars, and the Cooper S is eligible for the high-gloss silver interior treatment found in the base Cooper. Sound systems will be satellite radio-ready this year, and the rear cargo area now has a power point.

Pros:
  • The thrill of owning a piece of history with modern underpinnings, BMW-engineered suspension and steering, chock full of comfort and safety features, hatchback utility, scheduled maintenance on-the-house for 3 years/36,000 miles.
Cons:
  • Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, price goes up quickly with options, limited supply encourages dealer mark-up.

Bought my 03 S used last year with only 25k miles. Runs and looks like new. Great paint job (British racing green). Gets lots of looks wherever I go. My daughter wants me to keep it for her (10 years until she drives thank goodness). Two friends have one as well and we have all been happy with them. Lots of local owner clubs around metro areas too. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a truly enjoyable car to drive. I look forward to going fo a spin every time. Resale value is at the top of all vehicles made today. Good gas mileage too.

Ive owned the MINI for almost four years. I never keep cars this long - I just cant find anything as much fun without spending $45,000 +. This cars minor problems are far over shadowed by its super high fun factor. It has many aftermarket parts - you can personalize and modify it like a Harley. Its not hard or expensive to make it reasonably fast.

THE CUP HOLDERS ARE ALL WRONG. INSTALLED AFTERMARKET WHICH HELP THE SITUATION. SO CUP HOLDERS ARE NOW JUST HOLDERS FOR "STUFF". YES WE ALLOW EATING & DRINKING IN OUR BABY. SUN VISORS ARE WAY TOO SHORT, NEED TO BE ABLE LENGTHEN -DOES NOT PROVIDE ENOUGH SHIELDING. WOULD LIKE A BEEP RESPONSE ON THE REMOTE WHEN LOCKING & UNLOCKING.

  • Best Value - 2003 Mini Cooper

When I first saw the MINI I was impressed with the retro interior and exterior styling. After test driving the car I knew that I had to have one. It handles better than any small car I have ever driven. I got mine with premium package one and the sport package. I felt that these were an excellent value. These packages included may features found on cars costing $10K-$25K more than my MINI.

  • 03 Cooper S w/Sport Pack - 2003 Mini Cooper

It is an incredibly fun car to drive when either on a country road or in a hurry, having to weave around sport utilities. Handles just like youve read about - point and shoot - but the ride is a bit rough on bad roads with the 17s, as youd expect. Strong enough motor - could use another 40hp. Brilliant car. HIGHLY recommended.

  • Finally, an affordable British car! - 2003 Mini Cooper

When I heard about the launch of the new MINI Cooper, I knew I had to have one since I am an anglophile and have been hungry for a "cheap and cheerful" British car ever since the demise of British Leyland. My MINI has been everything I dreamed about and more. It has reliably transported me on my 120 mile/day commute, even during our harsh winter. Last month, it protected me in an accident on I-95. After my car was hit in the rear side, it spun out and collided with a metal guardrail. I was unhurt except for a tiny bruise on my temple. Sadly, my insurance totalled the vehicle, but I thought so highly of it that I have a 2004 on order.
