This Year's Model Updates:

For their second season in the U.S. market, the 2003 Mini Cooper and Cooper S will now come with a second remote key and pre-wiring for a dealer-installed alarm system. Anthracite (smoke gray, that is) interior trim is available as a no-cost option for both cars, and the Cooper S is eligible for the high-gloss silver interior treatment found in the base Cooper. Sound systems will be satellite radio-ready this year, and the rear cargo area now has a power point.

Pros:
  • The thrill of owning a piece of history with modern underpinnings, BMW-engineered suspension and steering, chock full of comfort and safety features, hatchback utility, scheduled maintenance on-the-house for 3 years/36,000 miles.
Cons:
  • Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, price goes up quickly with options, limited supply encourages dealer mark-up.

All I had hoped for. My CVT works great at 14 thousand miles. I believe the cars stalled once since I bought it, and that was moving from reverse to drive in my driveway. One oil change and tires rotated. Drove over the Blue Ridge Mountains with it; what a blast!! Any gripes I have are minor (below). In two more years Ill be ready for my second!

This car is the most fun to drive of nay car Ive ever owned. After waiting in great anticipation for 10 months for production and delivery, it hasnt been a disappointment. Although, it does seem to have a lot of little noises that come and go. Hopefully, this will be worked out. Gas mileage would be great, exept for the added cost of premium gas.

This is honestly the best car I have ever driven or ridden in. It is very fun to drive and has amazing handling. Also, the turning radius is very tight. The only bad thing about it is when you have to replace the tires. They are very expensive and hard to find. Honestly, I cannot see myself wanting another car.

This car is the most fun Ive had on wheels ever. It corners like it knows the way. The smiles from other motorists, the thumbs up, the conversations. All so positive about a car under 20,000. I am so grateful that BMW brought this car to market. Its an awesome ride.

  • The biggest grin - 2003 Mini Cooper

This car is so much fun to drive. You will find yourself with a huge grin on your face that lasts for hours even after you are done. The low end torque could be better, but if you keep it above 2500 RPM you are in for a good time. I would recommend going for the anthricite interior as the silver looks a little too plasticy IMHO. Some things (like the auto AC) I could do without, but the reason to get this car is because you like to drive. The stock stereo in the US is pretty good, but you should replace the speakers if you are really concerned with the quality.

Never have I driven a car as fun as the Cooper S. Once you get up to 2000 rpm, its like riding on a guided missle. People that say the ride is too harsh are probably just road haters, who should give it all up and take the bus.

The neatest, cutest and most fun for the money car you can have. It handles like a big go cart on rails. Always gives the feel to the driver of total control. I get great gas mileage (29mpg) even though I drive like a nut. The car is rock steady at speed. The Mini is an incredible small package for the price.

I own 5 other cars (all BMWs), but I dont drive them since buying the MINI. Its just too much fun to drive. Had the car on the track at Summit Point Raceway, and I was so much faster exiting corners, that the much faster cars could not get by me, even in the straights!

  • If you cant beat em, join em!!! - 2003 Mini Cooper

This car is fun and the automatic gets to 80mph fast and you cant even tell youre going over 50 (oops, I have already gotten one ticket, I think they were just jealous of my cute car). : ) Hood stipes are a must along with the white wheel, but keep them clean. This car gets more stares and comments than I thought possible.
