Overview & Reviews
The big news for the 2005 Mini Cooper is the arrival of the convertible in both regular and S flavors. Stylish as ever, the drop-top Mini seats four and still has a trunk big enough for a few bags. Other changes include slightly revised front and rear fascias and some reworked option choices. The vanity mirrors are no longer illuminated, a universal remote transmitter is now available and a leather-wrapped steering wheel is now standard. The S version gains 5 horsepower and 7 pound-feet of torque, as well as an external temperature display. Both the five- and six-speed manual transmissions feature shorter gearing this year to improve acceleration. A six-speed automatic transmission will become available on the S versions later in the model year.
- Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, some low-grade interior materials.

Paper Weight - 2005 Mini Cooper
By opusiam - May 22 - 2:00 amPerhaps, the 2nd worst vehicle I have ever owned. Too many warranty fixes from one previous owner and myself to list but include everything from water leaks to fluid leaks to repeat seat cover replacements, front seat replacement, loss of compression, etc. Compared to my previous vehicle, a Miata, it shifts like a truck. Handling is no where close to the Miatas. It would make a cute 3000 lb. paperweight.

Its a Keeper - 2005 Mini Cooper
By lombardoca - May 11 - 11:10 pmBought my 2005 Cooper S used (one year old and 12,000 miles on it). Dont put a lot of miles on it, but it is driven most days. Repairs needed by 25,000-30,000 miles indicate that many of the components just arent the sturdiest (wheels, tires, multiple oil leaks and a power steering fluid leak, suspension parts in need of replacement), but with the work done, it seems like new, and I would like to drive it forever.

EURO SUV - 2005 Mini Cooper
By Bob Carico - May 2 - 10:13 amJust finished 860 mile trip, averaged 32 mpg, great fun driving in the Virginia mountains. Very comfortable given we were driving a very fast go kart. We have enjoyed everything about the car. So far (12,100 miles) the car has been problem free. We have had car since Aug 04 and I still smile each morning when I get in to drive to work!

Wow. - 2005 Mini Cooper
By jbaker - May 2 - 10:00 amMost fun car I have ever driven. The clutch and gearbox are phenomenal, harmon kardon stereo has nice deep bass and crystal clear highs, the car sticks to the road like glue, and the exhaust note is beautiful. Dont even get me started on parking! If you dont need space for more than 2 people, this is one heck of an urban vehicle. I couldnt be happier :D

Blue and White is Alright - 2005 Mini Cooper
By colts fan - April 3 - 3:06 pmI have a one hour commute to work that used to be boring - now its a blast. The gas mileage isnt great (30+/-), especially at premium prices but the fun I have balances that out. One side benefit, most people who see it, smile. When they say its "cute" i say "no its understated".

Fun, Responsive, Yeah Baby! - 2005 Mini Cooper
By Kim - March 24 - 1:03 amMy 2005 MINI Cooper Convertible is a terrific little car. It handles beautifully, has fantastic braking, and good acceleration (especially with available clutchless manual). Plus its a real headturner. The convertible top operation is a breeze. Rear seating and trunk space are nominal, but who cares? I have had no problems at all with it in first 9 months of ownership.
