This Year's Model Updates:

For their second season in the U.S. market, the 2003 Mini Cooper and Cooper S will now come with a second remote key and pre-wiring for a dealer-installed alarm system. Anthracite (smoke gray, that is) interior trim is available as a no-cost option for both cars, and the Cooper S is eligible for the high-gloss silver interior treatment found in the base Cooper. Sound systems will be satellite radio-ready this year, and the rear cargo area now has a power point.

Pros:
  • The thrill of owning a piece of history with modern underpinnings, BMW-engineered suspension and steering, chock full of comfort and safety features, hatchback utility, scheduled maintenance on-the-house for 3 years/36,000 miles.
Cons:
  • Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, price goes up quickly with options, limited supply encourages dealer mark-up.

MINI promotes togetherness, freedom, and above all: FUN!Togetherness happens, since all you have to do is park at the local grocery for a few minutes and soon a crowd with gather. Freeway driving makes you a rolling conversation piece, as carloads of folks all press their noses to the window for a better look at your MINI. Freedom happens because your MINI will take you anywhere you want to go, do it in style, and not break your gasoline budget in the process. FUN is the key, though. Its impossible to drive this car without a big, goofy grin on your face...

After putting about 3000 miles on my Cooper S I still love it! However I have had the car in for service about three times, once for steering wheel alighnment, the other times for a weeping coolant resvoir and a leaking water pump. Service at Knauz MINI was great, the only problem was that I was with out my car for two days. Service was nice enough to give me a 3 series BMW for a loaner car.I was surprised to find out that the MINI S was better overall in every catagory over the 3 series BMW. Overall this car is awesome, I highly recommend the space cloth seats.

A blast to drive. Performance and handling are exceptional. Off ramps at 70 mph are no problem. This is definitly a drivers car.

I love this car! I always thought that it was cool, until i drove it. Thats when I fell in love. I still love my Mustangs, and vw GTIs but this is a new love and its here to stay. The car fits like a glove and the handling is crazy. It does things youre not supposed to do in a car. The power is great, It sure doesnt drive like it has only 168 hp. More power is always welcomed and the aftermarket is good for it. Everytime I get out of the car I am just itching to get back in it and DRIVE! FAST! It will be with me for a long time. I love to hear the supercharger whine, and the overall feel is superb. It feels like a high-end car but in a small package. You cant help but to grin when you drive this little beast.

Without exception this is the best car I have ever owned. This automobile is solidly built, extremely well finished, and just pure fun to drive. I have owned a number of high end cars but none of them compare to this gem. Mini has the smartest marketing and support from the factory to the dealer, its a total winner.

Experience with the dealer and the car are perfect. Both lived up to their marketing promises and maintain a high standard you would expect from some Asian competitors. No gouging by the dealer and the car runs and performs flawlessly. I use the it to commute and it makes the drive interesting and more economical. Look at the Mini before you buy a domestic economy or Asian econo car. The other reviews here covered the fun part and I certainly agree with them.

A real pleasure to drive. It would be nice to have a little more torque between 2500-3000 RPMs, but take it on a windy road for some 2nd gear driving and youll forget all about it. More usable cupholders would be a welcome improvement. 2000 miles so far and I love the car.

  • its a Mini thing - 2003 Mini Cooper

Im completely satisfied with my Mini- no mechanical issues, sporty, reliable, blah blah blah. But, putting the practical stuff aside, the real reason why I love my Mini is... its a Mini. Ever since I first laid eyes on a classic Mini with the Union Jack on the roof, I knew I wanted one. Theres something about the hum of the engine, the distinctive silhouette, the pop-art meets old-school rally racing coolness of that big speedometer in the middle of the dash, and being greeted every morning by a smiling, happy little Mini. Yes, Mini owners are a little nuts about their cars. We cant help it- you just have to love the Mini.

easy handeling and manoverability, has saved me a close call or two. The breaks dont lock up and you do not flat spin. A great safe car.
