This Year's Model Updates:

For their second season in the U.S. market, the 2003 Mini Cooper and Cooper S will now come with a second remote key and pre-wiring for a dealer-installed alarm system. Anthracite (smoke gray, that is) interior trim is available as a no-cost option for both cars, and the Cooper S is eligible for the high-gloss silver interior treatment found in the base Cooper. Sound systems will be satellite radio-ready this year, and the rear cargo area now has a power point.

Pros:
  • The thrill of owning a piece of history with modern underpinnings, BMW-engineered suspension and steering, chock full of comfort and safety features, hatchback utility, scheduled maintenance on-the-house for 3 years/36,000 miles.
Cons:
  • Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, price goes up quickly with options, limited supply encourages dealer mark-up.

  • Miss it, but GLAD its gone! - 2003 Mini Cooper

I bought my Cooper used w/ 68,000 miles. W/in 4 months this happened: First the key fob quit locking/unlocking door & would instead spontaneously open all the windows. Then the drivers side door handle quit working so I had to roll window down to get out, until window quit too, then I had to crawl out passenger side. Electrical issues caused all windows + sunroof to open when it rained which ruined the cloth seats. Then it started running out of gas before it was on E. Doors locked shut once so my bf had to crawl out window & I had go out trunk so I could roll window up. Then the tranny quit! $5k for a rebuilt! So then I had to give car back to bank 6 months after I got it.

My cooper is my favorite car ever driven. The handling is superior and unsurpassed by my other vehicles. I bought it just as a "fun" car and find myself driving it almost exclusively! If you get one, youll NEVER regret it.

I accepted the MINI in Salt Lake City, on 12/30/02. I drove the car to Austin Texas via Las Vegas. About 2100 miles in a week. The car was in snow storms, high winds, rain and sun. It performed perfectly. The trip averaged 33.1 mpg at an average speed of 64 mph. I have the on board computer. Most driving was done at 70 to 80 mph. It is comfortable, (lots of seat adjustments) and fun to drive. Besides getting comments everywhere I go. I really like this car.

This is great car and its very fun to drive. You get a lot of attention and respect on the streets. The base Mini Cooper is a little weeker than the S but its more comfortable for daily driving. The interior is very attactive and classy.

I can safely say that it is my favorite car yet. My wife and I have three year old twins - no problem, the car seats and the kids fit fine for around the town driving. I am not even going to go into performace and handling, that is a waste of the readers time. Nothing in its class compares. The surprise is how compfortable and how much room you seem to have. I just took four adults (two 6 2 folks) to the wine country and no one complained about not enough room. I dont know what was more fun, drinking the wine or driving the car there and showing off the car to passer-byers. Buy one if you enjoy life!!! Terry Tyrrell - Westlake Village, Ca

Have had many fun cars, including a Honda S2000 which I still own, but the MINI Cooper S is the most all around fun Ive had. Great car, inspiring low- end torque, a head-turner on the streets.

Great car. It is very important to take this car for what it is, a small fun runabout. If you are looking for a car that lets you take a nap in comfort wrong choice. This car is fun, fun to drive, fun to look at, and fun to own. I must also tell you that it is good reliable transportation for a fair price.

  • Love the MINI - 2003 Mini Cooper

When the lease was up on my BMW Z3, I decided to look for a more reasonably priced car- but i did not want to sacrifice performance- I decided to get a MINI. So far the car is a blast. The first thing I noticed was that it actually handles better than the Z. I love the design of the car inside and out, and the fit and finish is what you would expect from BMW. Though the car has a little less muscle than my other cars, it is far from under-powered and the low price means that I can buy the car rather than lease - so now I get to work on it and make it go faster on my own. I would recommend this car to anyone who loves to drive-

I have been a MG fan for over 20 years having owned and still owning a bunch. That being said, this Mini Cooper S is without doubt the most fun vehicle I have ever had. It does everything well. I absolutely love it. While its not for everyone, it is definitely for me!
