This Year's Model Updates:

The big news for the 2005 Mini Cooper is the arrival of the convertible in both regular and S flavors. Stylish as ever, the drop-top Mini seats four and still has a trunk big enough for a few bags. Other changes include slightly revised front and rear fascias and some reworked option choices. The vanity mirrors are no longer illuminated, a universal remote transmitter is now available and a leather-wrapped steering wheel is now standard. The S version gains 5 horsepower and 7 pound-feet of torque, as well as an external temperature display. Both the five- and six-speed manual transmissions feature shorter gearing this year to improve acceleration. A six-speed automatic transmission will become available on the S versions later in the model year.

Pros:
Cons:
  • Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, some low-grade interior materials.

  • Lots of fun - 2005 Mini Cooper

Ive owned this vehicle for about two months now. Overall Ive had a very satisfying experience. Despite the rising price of gas (and the fact that you fill up with premium) I cant get enough of driving this car. I did have some minor issues with the car, the first was that the door latch on the drivers side did not want to open correctly, a tension issue that was quickly fixed by the dealer. The second was a defective ignitor of one of my xenon headlights, again fixed for me under warranty.

  • Fun to drive? You better believe it! - 2005 Mini Cooper

This is the first car Ive owned in a while (10 years or so of truck ownership preceeded it) and Ive always wanted a convertible. WOW. There are not enough adjectives to describe what its like to drive this car. From handling corners like theyre not even there, to lots of punch in acceleration, you cant help but have a huge grin on your face when youre putting this car through its paces. Still, nearly a year after I bought it, I still get people daily asking me about it, if its fun to drive, where I got it...its the most fun Ive ever had driving a car. To the editors ratings..7.8? How can you possibly put as much weight into cupholders as you do fun to drive?

I have been wanting a new car for sometime but couldnt find one that I liked til now. What a great car! So much better than a VW bug. I love everything about it!

  • A blast to drive - 2005 Mini Cooper

I test drove a 2004 MINI for the first time, just for kicks - when I accidentally took a corner at 45 mph, I was hooked. The 05 model has more horses, some better styling, and even more options. I picked up an S (chili red, white roof and mirrors) with Premium, Sports, and Cold Weather packages (for use in Chicago), and the Harmon Kardon sound system. Short version: I love it. Handling is great; acceleration, while not the best, is plenty of fun for a daily driver. The size and maneuverability make the MINI perfect for parallel parking and highway passing. My only major worry is that somebody will drive into me while smiling at my car!

  • The most fun driving ever! - 2005 Mini Cooper

I am a car person and have driven about every car out there from the Lincoln Town Car, Mazda Miata convertibles, SUVs, Mercedes SL500s, and I absolutely love my MINI. It is by far the most fun I have ever had driving since I got my license. The only thing I would trade it for would be another one!

  • Mini is the Best - 2005 Mini Cooper

This car looks great and drives like a dream car. It is so much fun to drive. My wife loves it as much as I do. Its used as a daily driver and is easy to handle in traffic. We get a lot of looks from other motorists and when we stop there is always someone out there that wants to talk about the car. This iss my second MINI, I had to have a red and white one. The first one was dark silver. It is so comfortable and we have taken several long trips of over 1000 miles. I think we will keep it.

  • Wonderful Car - 2005 Mini Cooper

I recently bought a new Mini Cooper S blue with a white roof, and absolutely love it! Its great, you can park anywhere, you get great gas mileage, and you can go as fast as you want and get there just as fast. Fun Fun Fun and more Fun. I would highly recommend this car unless you live somewhere that gets a lot of snow, then a nice SUV might do the trick.

I have owned four different convertibles starting with a Volkswagen Beetle, followed by a Mazda Miata, a Toyota MR2 Spyder, and now my Mini Cooper. I love, love, love this car and so does everyone that sees it.
