This Year's Model Updates:

The big news for the 2005 Mini Cooper is the arrival of the convertible in both regular and S flavors. Stylish as ever, the drop-top Mini seats four and still has a trunk big enough for a few bags. Other changes include slightly revised front and rear fascias and some reworked option choices. The vanity mirrors are no longer illuminated, a universal remote transmitter is now available and a leather-wrapped steering wheel is now standard. The S version gains 5 horsepower and 7 pound-feet of torque, as well as an external temperature display. Both the five- and six-speed manual transmissions feature shorter gearing this year to improve acceleration. A six-speed automatic transmission will become available on the S versions later in the model year.

Pros:
Cons:
  • Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, some low-grade interior materials.

Great Car. Real fun to drive. Wife wanted an automatic. You can still shift it manually if you want.

I have the Cooper with CVT and so far am totally thrilled. Yes, its small (hence the name), and yes the ride is ... firm. But. If you want to look for excuses to run errands, make heads turn at every stoplight, smile whenever you put the key in the ignition, and just plain feel more excited about driving than since you were 16, then the MINI is for you.

I picked up my MINI Cooper S Convertible in December 2004 after owning a 2002 Cooper hatchback for 2 1/2 years and 40,000 miles. So far I have put over 3,500 miles on it and couldnt be happier. It is a great commuter car as well as being fun on the weekend driving around town. It is also fine for weekend trips with my wife. It has plenty of space for luggage with the rear seats folded down. I am averaging about 30 mpg with a mix of 70% highway / 30% city driving. The build quality is better than my 2002 model. I get lots of stares and questions as the S convertible is still somewhat rare in western Maryland. You can spend more money on a true top down sports car but the Cooper S convertible is perfect for me.

I bought my car used. It needed a tire speed sensor installed at 18,000 miles. Since then, it has been great. The first owner did not treat the car kindly. Other MINI owners wave or honk every time they pass. I look forward to driving my car. Its fun to take out on curvy roads, similar to driving a comfortable go-cart. I did have one passenger too large to fit in the car, but otherwise its big enough for everything else -- grocery shopping is not a problem, nor is transporting 3 teenage boys! The hatch lid hides whatever is in there providing extra security.

This has got to be the best car I have ever driven! The large speedometer is easy to read, quick steering, small steering wheel,no large blind spots, acceleration and accurate shifting.

I BOUGHT MY COOPER S USED ITS A 03 WITH 15K MILES, I BOUGHT IT ON EBAY. ITS A GREAT CAR, I WANTED SOMETHING SPORTY BUT UPSCALE, WITHOUT IT BEING A KIDS CAR. ITS FAST OFF THE LINE ONCE THE SUPERCHARGER KICKS IN, AND PLENTY OF POWER IN EVERY GEAR. I PUT THE CHECKERED ROOF ON SO PEOPLE WILL SEE ME COMING, ITS A GREAT CAR AND I WILL BUY ANOTHER ONE. I HAVE A EMPLOYEE AT WORK WHO IS 68 AND 320 POUNDS. HE FITS WITH PLENTY OF ROOM LEFT.

Our yellow and black Mini Cooper is the most fun car I have ever owned. I am 52 years old and I have owned many different cars since I started driving at 15. My wife and I are thinking of buying another Mini so we can each have our own. Great Car!

My husband let me pick the car I wanted - and Ive always loved the Mini since we were in Europe. So I was overjoyed when the convertible became available. My husband thought my MINI was a girly car - that is until he drove it. Now he loves to drive it - the pick-up and the way it holds the road - especially in curves. He is tall - over 6 ft. and he has plenty of room. Only draw back is the nearest dealership is 100 miles away. So am glad it is working well.

This is just plain FUN. Weve both had Mustangs in the past, and we actually prefer this. We could have waited for the 05 Mustang Convertible, but once we drove this...it was a done deal. Quick, easy to handle and park ANYWHERE...especially crowded soccer fields...and boy do the heads turn! Great mileage. At first it felt like we were driving a target after driving our SUV...but as quick and as safe ast it is...its not a problem anymore. We love our MINI.
