This Year's Model Updates:

Both 2004 Mini Cooper trims offer a new three-spoke leather sport steering wheel. A rear power socket returns as a standard item, and beige leather sport seats are now available. A digital speedometer readout has been added to the electronic display, and an instantaneous fuel-consumption function has been added to its on-board computer.

Pros:
Cons:
  • Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, some low-grade interior materials.

With 60k miles on it CVT transmission failed on the freeway at rush hour, they tried to charge me $10k to replace it, talked em down to $3k but still then the fuel gauge, again, leaving me stranded on the freeway $1200, then the power steering $1000, then the mysterious $1200 thermostat repair that took them over a week to diagnose, apparently I hit a pot hole on the way home from the dealership (I have no memory of hitting anything) but the next day all the radiator fluid was on the ground so back she went to where they set me back another $2200 for a new radiator. Im not even listing the numerous repairs that cost under $500 that I had to do, all for a car with less than 85k miles.

After 2.5 years the love still has not faded. I look forward to going places just so I can drive my MINI. I also took an opportunity to get a quote on trading it in when I went in for my FREE scheduled maintenance and found out that I would get $15,600 which is a 79.1% trade-in value. That number is exceptional! If you love getting you moneys worth and some money back in the end then this is the car for you! I couldnt believe it was still worth so much. I am already looking forward to trading it in next year and get my hands on another brand new MINI... but this time I will upgrade to the S and the JCW (the works). MINI owners know what Im talking about! I recomend this car to ALL!

The pure look of the mini could sell any car lover right away, but it is when you start to look at the detail and craftsman ship that has gone into the vehicle is what will make you fall flat on your ass. A 1.6 litre engine that delivers 115 horse power and steering that will turn on a dime, makes this vehicle feel like you are in the fastest go-cart in the world. Car enthusisats have been waiting years for someone to revitalize the Mini name and cudos to BMW for finaly doing so. Combing British old school styling and engineering with Current, top of the line, German engineering makes this on of the best cars on the road to drive and own.

  • I Love This Car! - 2004 Mini Cooper

Im a Mini lover from way back, and never dreamed Id own my own. Now that I do, Im finding that a car is not just a car, its an identity, a conversation starter, a hobby, an entertainment, and so much more. My kids ride in the back, and all they can talk about is becoming old enough to be able to drive it. Even my husband, who is a tough sell, says well never sell it and one day, it will be our own cool, classic car. It is light on storage, but thats not why I bought it and I find a way to carry whatever I need to. Thanks to Mini for building such a marvelous automobile. Im in love!

From the first time I drove the cooper-S, I knew I wanted this car. Its power and performance is incredible, yet everyone thinks "its so cute", then I blow thier doors off. I am 6-3" and 225lbs and fit very comfortably in my mini with room to spare. I love my mini!

  • Dont buy a mini with a CVT!!!! - 2004 Mini Cooper
    By -

I had my heart set on a mini, and I wanted an automatic, so I purchased a used 04 mini CVT 38k,mile. The day after purchase , it would red line at 15 mph. I took it to the local mini dealership, and they told me that it was normal, that I probably was not driving it aggressively enough. So then it stalled on me at a red light, and they said this was normal, still not driving it aggressively enough. After this happening probably 9-11 times in the 6 weeks I had it, I sold it. I would have to drive it around the parking lot for about 20 min. to get it to get back to its normal self. Some people say that theirs goes out completely. I am lucky I got rid of mine while I could! DONT BUY MINI

We loved the car, it is great. My husband knew the car from Europe, and he couldt wait until came to USA. We waited 6 months for the S (worth the wait) now they are coming with the convertible.

  • Positive Mini Cooper Experience - 2004 Mini Cooper

This is my second Mini. I purchased the "Works" option on this one. It is fantastic with significant power improvement from 2500 rpm. The 2004 model seems to be slightly more refined than 2002. Seats and interior room for the driver are excellent. The total driving experience is superb if one likes to drive. Performance is along with the best of sports cars. My 2004 has had no problems. I have taken this car on long trips. Great driving enjoyment, superb handling. Gas mileage ranges from 22-30 mpg at highway speeds well over the limit. Everyone seems to love the car and ask about it still after being out for over two years.

  • Fun - 2004 Mini Cooper

I previously had a BMW Z3, and while the Mini Cooper S is no Z3, it does provide a lot of fun-factor. Lots of lookers as well. Spirited and precise handling, fairly good low-end torque, except for off a start. Readily recommend to anyone who wants a quality built fun car.
