This Year's Model Updates:

For their second season in the U.S. market, the 2003 Mini Cooper and Cooper S will now come with a second remote key and pre-wiring for a dealer-installed alarm system. Anthracite (smoke gray, that is) interior trim is available as a no-cost option for both cars, and the Cooper S is eligible for the high-gloss silver interior treatment found in the base Cooper. Sound systems will be satellite radio-ready this year, and the rear cargo area now has a power point.

Pros:
  • The thrill of owning a piece of history with modern underpinnings, BMW-engineered suspension and steering, chock full of comfort and safety features, hatchback utility, scheduled maintenance on-the-house for 3 years/36,000 miles.
Cons:
  • Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, price goes up quickly with options, limited supply encourages dealer mark-up.

  • My favorite car ever! - 2003 Mini Cooper

I have owned a BMW, a Mercedes, a Saab, and an Audi, and the Mini is by far the best car I have ever owned. I enjoy driving it around town, and it is amazingly comfortable on long trips as well. The controls are well placed, the interior is surprisingly roomy and the ride, while sporty, is not rough. The handling is superior to any other car Ive driven, and, of course, it is by far the cutest car on the road!

  • Love it, but not the maintenance expense - 2003 Mini Cooper

I love my MINI, its quick, responsive and fun to drive. But Ive had to replace one run-flat tire for every year Ive owned it - 200-500/tire. Add that to the three times Ive had to replace parts for the window, the consistent rattling noises, and a guy wire in the door that pops off so I cant easily open the driver side door - Ive spent more money on my Mini in the past four years than I ever did on my first car - a Honda Civic SI. You WILL be paying BMW prices for labor and parts. The allure of the initial price tag of the Mini (substantially lower than a BMW) is overshadowed by the maintenence costs - with alll the electrical problems of a BMW to boot.

  • Most enjoyable car Ive owned - 2003 Mini Cooper

Ive had my Mini-S for two years and my only complaint is the distance to the dealership for free service. It is solid, roomy, and has a jackrabbit approach to exceleration. I just Love it! Logest trip 600 miles with no aches or pains! Despite several recalls the folks at MINI want you to love your experience with this auto.

I LOVE THIS CAR! SMILE,SMILE,SMILE AND DRIVE,DRIVE,DRIVE! TORQUEY, FAST AND TURNS ON A DIME. COMFORTABLE FRONT SEATS (YES, EVEN ON LONG TRIPS) AND EXECUTED WITH FINESSE. BMW FEEL IS EVIDENT. (SOME OF THESE POOR REVIEWS I BELIEVE ARE FABRICATED. FORGET THE SOUR GRAPES AND JOIN THE CLUB. YOU WONT BE SORRY!!!)

  • So much fun. - 2003 Mini Cooper

Ive had my MINI for 8 months now. It has had two recalls, a few minor manufacturing defects, and an overheating problem that still hasnt been completely corrected but I can overlook these problems because it is just so much fun to drive. The dealer I purchased it from treats your like royalty and provides you with a complementary loaner car which takes the major hassels out of the service issues. All maintainance is covered for the first 3 years, 36,000 miles. Cant think of any car on the road that is so much fun to drive for the money. Happy motoring:).

Traded in a Toyota Sequoia for the Mini. Gas mileage is great. Handles wonderfully on the highway and never have problems in high winds. Car hugs the road and manuevers well. The interior is great and when inside, does not feel like you are in a small car. Great for parking in small spaces. Also find I can transport alot of "stuff" with the rear seats down if necessary.

This is the best car I have ever owned! Not only is it fuel-efficient and a pleasure to drive, but this car actually has a "personality".

  • This car is GREAT!!!!!!! - 2003 Mini Cooper

I love my Cooper! This is the most fun car I have ever owned. It is well worth the money! My fiancee often compares the Cooper to our Trailblazer. He said the Trailblazer is a cautious vehicle on the highway going through the curvey mountains while the Cooper just says, "Go ahead take the curve, take the curve. No need to hit the breaks."
