The Mountaineer comes in three different versions for 2003: Convenience, Luxury and Premier. Mercury has added standard equipment this year, including security approach lamps, automatic headlamps, dual illuminated visor vanity mirrors, heated exterior mirrors and power-adjustable pedals. Luxury models receive color-keyed running boards and an Audiophile sound system as standard, and Premier adds to that a power sunroof and a Security Group that includes a Safety Canopy system of head airbags and rollover protection sensors bundled with a reverse-sensing system. Inside, Mountaineers get new trim for the doors and dash, a three-point seatbelt for the center of the second-row bench and an easy entry/exit system for the third-row seat. Luxury and Premier models can be outfitted with a new DVD entertainment system for the rear seats and a tire pressure monitoring system. A leather-upholstered center console cover is added and leather is a no-charge option for Luxury and Premier models.

  This is our second Mountaineer. My wife and I are very happy with this SUV, it is one of the best out on the market to drive, our 2002 on long trips got over 20 mpg, for the money the Mountaineer has it hands down....

  Great SUV - 2003 Mercury Mountaineer

  This is a superb SUV. Very comfortable and easy to drive. It handles as well as a sedan which is supprising. The ride is like your typical modern day SUV. I had to settle for the Luxury model because of the lack of head room in the Premier with the Sunroof. I am 61". We have the V6 with a class III/IV tow package that pulls our 3500 lb boat better than our V8 truck. This Mountaineer is my wifes primary use vehicle but is also the vehicle we get in when traveling together.

  I have had my Merc. Mtnr for over a year..driving over 25,000 miles and love it! Have had several SUVs...but this one is by far the best. Some real nice extras and has a different look than most SUVs. Have had -0- problems.

  Never wanted an SUV - 2003 Mercury Mountaineer

  My husband kept insisting I needed a 4WD vehicle. I buy a vehicle because of the way it looks, no other reason. The salesman showed me 5 vehicles the day I bought the Mountaineer. Each one had to be cleaned of 6 inches of snow! When I saw the Mountaineer, I said "ok I like how this looks. I drove it, and bought it that day. Its been 1 1/2 years and I love it.

  Ive had my mountaineer for 2 1/2 years and have not had any problems. I just took it in for a recall. Some bolts needed replaced on the rear glass. I think I have every option available there is to get, so it makes other vehicles seem like theyre missing something. We have a V8 and it has the best pickup Ive ever driven. Great in the snow. I live in Indiana, so we get plenty of it and ice. The only things I would like to see different are in the 2005 model, such as reclining seats for the 2nd row. It would also be nice if the seats were softer and there was a high/low switch for the heated seats. I dont plan on getting rid of this SUV.
