Nice Car, Could Use Some Improvement - 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis
By Mr. Marquis - December 8 - 5:03 pmIf youre like me and enjoy a large, roomy v-8 driven rear wheel drive car then the Mercury Marquis is about the only way to go now that GM has been out of the game since 96. That being said, it fills that niche nicely but a few things need to be addressed. I bought mine at 62,000 miles and it ran fine with no problems until around 75,000 when the plastic intake manifold cracked ($1,000 fix). This is apparently a common problem on the Ford 4.6L V8. Its comfortable, has plenty of room, and rides nice and smooth. Overall, a good value with nice features for the money.

Great Car - 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis
By TxMarilyn - August 30 - 10:00 amI have been very satisfied with this car. I get just as good gas mileage as my sisters 6 cylinder, but I have much more power and room. The insurance on this car is so low! I sustained very little damage when I was struck from behind by another car. The fuel shutoff worked just like it was supposed to work.

Id buy it again! - 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis
By CSpringsDriver - July 31 - 2:00 amI bought this car off the showroom floor in 1996. It now has over 82,000 miles on it and has had no major problems. I drove it from NY to Colorado in 1999 with a fully loaded trunk and 2 dogs in the back seat. The car runs smooth and quiet with plenty of power. I like it because it has lots of interior room and the seats are very comfortable. Im definitely considering buying another Grand Marquis when the time comes to replace it.

Grand Marquis - 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis
By mistategrad - June 17 - 2:00 amWe have not been very happy with the interior quality of the vehicle. Both front doors have panels that have come loose. The car has a huge trunk and rides very well. It also has plenty of power. We average about 20 mpg.

Mercury Grand Marquis - Experiences - 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis
By Julie - June 11 - 10:00 amGenerally, this car has been very, very dependable and comfortable to ride on a daily basis. The down side is on a long trip, the seats do not give as much support as they should, resulting in back-aches. The car is very long, and the suspension is rather "floppy" in that it is "swooshy", and not tight like a more sporty model. The turning radius is not tight.

Excellent vehicle for the american road - 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis
By Phillie Dee - February 28 - 2:00 amIn simply two words the car is "Bullet proof". Purchased used with 56K, drove it 90K on one set of tires with no need for wheel alignments and tire rotation. Acceleration is excellent and its quiet, roomy and comfortable. Now at 183K miles it looks and runs like a new car. You would never know that it has high miles on it. I average 21.9 MPG in combo driving and it can take a beating, being driven 100 miles every day to commute. Recently took it on a road trip 3000 miles in 4 days and it ran flawlessly at around 26.5 MPG.

96 grand marquis - 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis
By George - September 21 - 6:43 pmI bought my grand marquis used with about 87,000 miles for $2000. I replace the wiper blades, one rim with curb damage, and one missing side light, and changed the oil. It drove great till 117,000 miles. Then the plastic intake manifold cracked, leaking out the coolant. You can read more about this by googling intake manifolds, grand marquis/crown victorias. My engine must of over heated and warped or cracked a head. I dont blame my car, I blame Ford. I bought a used 4.6 engine with 118,000 on it and using info I found on the internet and my library, I switched engines. I have no experience doing this and it took me about 50 hours total. I now have 125,000 miles and it runs great.

Grand Marquis - 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis
By CGood - May 25 - 4:26 pmThis is the fourth Grand Marquis Ive had in the last 6 years. I now own 2 and will be purchasing my 5th in the next year. I do a lot of cross country driving and you just cant beat these cars on the used market for comfort and handling. Mine has 120,000 miles and runs like the day it was new.

Marquis - 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis
By wrightchix - March 8 - 9:20 amLost water pump at 98000. Intake manifold at 110000. Ford recalled intakes on police and livery use models only. Seats hard on bottom for long drives. Lost sensor at exhaust manifold a 63000. Lost sensor at catalytic 111000. Spark plug wires wear prematurely. Otherwise, A great car.
