This Year's Model Updates:

This four-door "coupe" from Mercedes-Benz, known as the CLS, gets more power for 2007, its sophomore year. The standard model becomes the CLS550. The number change indicates the V8 is now a 5.5-liter unit. It delivers 382 horsepower, 80 more than the output of last year's V8. Additionally, the high-performance CLS63 AMG replaces last year's CLS55 AMG and brings more power as well -- 507 hp compared to the previous 469 hp. Newly standard are a Harman Kardon premium audio system (with six-disc CD changer) and Mercedes' "PreSafe" collision-mitigation system.

Pros:
  • Sharp and sexy exterior design, handles like a smaller car, smooth and potent V8s.
Cons:
  • Sleek lines make getting in back a little awkward, headroom tight in back for taller passengers, complicated control interface.

  • Shockingly Underwhelmed - 2007 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class

Ive owned 10 vehicles over the last 25 years and the CLS550 is unquestionably the biggest disappointment. Bottom line - Ive got an $80,000+ luxury vehicle with all the bells and whistles that drives like a 1972 Fiat. Despite being in the shop 3 times in the first 90 days, the vehicle continues to violently rattle and vibrate, the "premium sound system" sounds like a transistor radio, and the "climate controlled seats" are nothing more than a weak fan with an imperceptable effect. Two thumbs down!

The style is nice. The car is in the shop at least once every 3 months. Fixes so far include, oil leaks, belt tensioner replaced, chrome trim tarnished and replaced, differential replaced, steering wheel leather peeled, door glass window needed several repairs, cup holder chrome peels off in one year or so, replaced once and will need replacement again, window class catches the rubber molding when opened on all doors (no fix available at dealer). The car has clicking noise from from and rear suspension, the dealer said it is normal to have the noise. It may well be normal but I did not expect a MB to have such noises. Blind spot is bad.
