This Year's Model Updates:

The CLS is an all-new sedan in Mercedes' lineup for 2006.

Pros:
  • Sharp and sexy exterior design, handles like a much smaller car, smooth V8.
Cons:
  • Sleek lines make getting in back a little awkward, complicated control interface.

  • Good but could be better - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class

This is a very nice car. Did a very nice job in the interior with the leather stitching and beautiful wood. The seven speed transmission is good for fuel economy and its smooth. Big fat tires even without the sports package. Has ADSII a much better version of the semi air suspension compare to ADS.

  • Smooth and powerful - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class

It has been a great experience thus far. I have had to hang on tightly when occasionally my foot gets too heavy. I didnt expect the engine performance and its been a pleasant surprise. The control is more complex than it has to be (how many menus just to change the light?) But after its all together easy to work with and maintain. Its only been a month so well see if it lives up to the Mercedes reputation for quality.

  • Blind spots - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class
    By -

I have driven this car 1600 miles from Springfield, MO to McAllen, TX and noticed many blind spots around the car that could cause me or my wife to have a car accident. Door jams are too wide, and windows are too small and narrow. Overall the car has poor visibility from the inside. The right hand mirror is obscured about one quarter by the passenger door jam.

  • CLS Mercedes - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class

This is the best looking Mercedes in a long, long time. The exterior has beautiful sleek lines and is a "hottie". The interior up front is very nice. The instrument panel is basically an "E" class cluster with some added extras. The back seat is for two people only and if you are tall, you will be bumping your head on top. For a fun and great looking car, its great.

  • Beauty is only skin deep. Prototype woes - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class

Very disappointed with quality and road reliability. Has me seriously questioning ever owning a Mercedes again. True, looks and sumptuous cabin turn heads. Very comfortable on long cruises, even in back seat. Exceptional responsiveness. A blast to drive, but many miles have been logged going back 20+ times for maintenance, electronics, accessories, suspension and wheel repair in 36 months. Ball joints should outlast 70000 miles. Brake pad sensors disconnected to keep static off the radio when braking. Dry and wet road handling is fabulous, but just a dusting of snow incapacitates it. Simple items like cup holders failed and finishes are peeling. Sadly, like the Mona Lisa with big red zit.

  • Beauty and the Beast - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class

Love the looks of the vehicle and the attention it gets but not so keen on the ride. Dont know if I would have made the purchase had I known the transmission and ride would be so "less than desirable".

  • 3 Irritating Things, but I Love the Car - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class

Side mirrors are tiny- very difficult to see. Ride is too mushy even on sport mode setting. Glare on interior windshield on passenger side from wood trim is distracting. I plan to keep the car for 5 years. Found out that I cannot obtain an extended warranty since i am not the original owner. So now AAA gets my business and I can take it to the M-B dealer. Wake up Daimler! If youre over 6 you sit in the front seats- in the rear seat your head touches the roof- believe me. The 2010 version looks more aggressive so after 5 years Ill get one at less than half cost. This car depreciates 50% in less than 3 years!

  • Ive Had Issues - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class
    By -

I love this car but unfortunately I have had issues. The check engine light came on and took 3 trips to the dealer to fix. The steering column angle sensor went bad and had to be replaced and most distressing (the new 7-speed transmission) a clunkly downshift from 3-2 when coming to a stop. The dealer fixed this but 2,000 miles later it is back. Of course everyone knows how it is impossible to come to a smooth stop with those electric brakes. It kills me because I love the car.

  • BEST CAR EVER! - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class
    By -

I just received the CLS 500 as a gift from my parents, Im 17, and I absoutly love it. Before this car I had the Volvo xc90 T6 AWD. After only driving SUVs and now having a sport coupe, I dont think i will go back. It is extremely easy to handle and you will definetly get noticed. With its sleek design people often mistake it for a 2- door coupe. In addition to its easy handling, its interior is very comfortable and practical for example its "in-ground" cup holders. They truly are what you might call "million dollar" cup holders becuase its simple...they cant break!!! But honsetly its an awesome car with a lot of thought, time and effort put into it.

  • Very satisfied - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class
    By -

I am just weeks ahead of my 2nd year of ownership and this has been a great car, and I have not had any troubles with it that required a dealer visit. Its my first Mercedes Benz and I am impressed with how solid the car feels, it feels as though it will feel new and perfect for a long time.
