This Year's Model Updates:

The completely redesigned 2009 Mazda 6 boasts upsized dimensions and powertrains that put it on par with segment leaders, yet it largely retains its distinctive fun-to-drive character.

Pros:
  • Roomy cabin, big trunk, muscular performance from V6, smooth automatic transmissions, relatively sporty handling.
Cons:
  • Mediocre fuel economy, some cheap interior materials, not as much "zoom-zoom" as enthusiasts might like.

  • Best mid-size family sedan, + extra Zoom - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

After totaling our Honda Pilot, we decided to go with a sedan. Vehicles we compared against were Fusion, Malibu, G8, used G35, and Accord. Out of the bunch, we kept coming back to the Mazda6. Heres why: Fun to drive factor: theres no question that this car will be putting smiles on our faces for years to come. Our 13 year old son even says it looks cool. On some back roads in Talledega Forest, this car begged to be driven fast...80+MPH is where this car feels best. Interior design and room: Only the Accord has more room, but the Mazda6 GT definitely has the best options...bluetooth, blind spot monitoring, top quality interior workmanship for this class, and an awesome audio system.

  • Mazda6 V6 replaces Altima - 2009 Mazda Mazda6
    By -

A little over a year ago I purchased a new Nissan Altima. It was close to a strip model and I was never really satisfied with the car. Checked out the Mazda6 with the 4 cylinder and thought it was a nicely appointed car but the power was not what I expected. The dealer pulled around a Touring S model with the V6. Wow what a difference, I was sold as soon as I hit the acceleration. I got a great deal since they were having huge rebates and $1000 buyer loyalty credit. (Also own a 2007 CX7) I had an 07 IS250 and this car is almost identical in looks and features in my opinion.

  • This car rocks! - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

We have had this car for two months and fall in love with it more each day. We absolutely love the 6 speed manual - it has made driving fun again. The ride is excellent and the car is a real head turner. Although the car is not fully loaded (No Nav system - it is equipped with everything we need, except maybe heated seats). The car has handled superbly in severe winter conditions - heavy snow and ice. We feel in control, even when driving conditions are bad. This has been a great buy and my wife and I would purchase this again - maybe one for me! Mazda really hit a home run with this re-design and we are looking forward to the 2010 Mazda 3! ZOOM-ZOOM All the way!!

  • Worth the Wait - 2009 Mazda Mazda6
    By -

We were ready to replace our old Mazda6 back in April of this year, but decided to wait for the 2009. Im glad we did, for this vehicle is so much better. It has a larger interior, larger trunk and we opted for the i Grand Touring with remote keyless doors and ignition, dual zone climate control, leather heated seats and we opted for the moonroof and sound upgrade package. The car still handles great like the older version but is so much more comfortable.

  • Update on December Review - 2009 Mazda Mazda6
    By -

Weve had our Mazda6 since December now and have close to 9000 miles on it. I wrote in my initial review we loved the car and hoped it would be as reliable as all of our other Mazdas have been. Switched oil to Mobil 1 synthetic at the first change. We average 22.4 around town and 28.3 on the road. The car is as good as our 04 as it is rock solid, totally reliable but it is more comfortable than our 04 Mazda6. It is a great car and we love it. The V-6 has more than enough power and I find the fuel economy pretty fair. All in all we are very pleased with the car and look forward to driving it for years to come.

  • Tons better than my 2008 Honda Accord - 2009 Mazda Mazda6
    By -

I bought an 08 Accord in March 2008. It was plagued with fault brakes and other electrical problems. So, buh-bye Accord. I know Mazda owners and test drove the 09 6. I had parked by Accord next to a 6 at the dealers. The 6 made the Accord look like a dowdy Buick. The 6 has had zero problems. The interior is 10 times better than the Accord. The power seat is fantastic for my long legs. On the highway I get 30 mpg -- the Accord got 33, so its a little less. I like a reliable car, and I do believe that I have found it. Ive read some unfortunate things about the current Accords. The 6 might not hold its resale value as much as the Accord, but I wont have the car repairs that Accord needs.

  • Great Car for the $$ - 2009 Mazda Mazda6
    By -

Black on black with the convenience package and rear spoiler. Looks are fantastic and its one of the best looking cars out there. Handles very well around corners. Very little cabin noise. Controls are perfectly placed. Push-button start takes time to get used to if youre used to having a key in your hand as you exit the car. 2.5L has some zip to it and gets up to speed quickly. Leather trim does look cheap and seats are a bit hard. Interior lights look fantastic! Bluetooth works well and very easy to set-up, however have been told that it has some static on the other end.

  • Mazda Does It Big Time! - 2009 Mazda Mazda6
    By -

Ive owned 17 new cars in 35 years of driving. This is truly my top 2 car besides my BMW. Car rides flawless & quality is just terrific! I bought my car loaded with sound & navigation packages. Everything works just perfect as it should! I traded my 08 Nissan Coupe & have zip regrets! Anyone that has a bad thing to say is down right jealous or cant afford it!

  • Pleased with the selection - 2009 Mazda Mazda6
    By -

Shopped extensively before selecting the Mazda6 and so far I am very pleased. Compared Nissan, Chevy, Hyundai, Pontiac, Honda. For the features, performance, comfort, luxury, size, and styling, the 6 was hard to beat. Mostly mixed driving so far and mpg is holding steady at 24.5 mpg. I have to admit the power out of the 4 cyl is quite impressive. Am hoping for CAI and oil filter options to be available soon. Would highly recommend this car if you are in the market.
