This Year's Model Updates:

New hatchback and wagon body styles were added to the lineup at the end of 2004 and carry over unchanged for 2005. The optional automatic transmission on all V6 models has been upgraded from a five-speed to a six-speed unit.

Pros:
  • More fun to drive than most family cars, slick-shifting manual transmission, smooth power delivery, nicely appointed interior, multiple body styles.
Cons:

Its not often that you can truly haul when hauling stuff. The Mazda6 Sport Wagon handles all situations well. Its quick to respond to driver inputs. And never loses its cool even if the driver is over his head. The controls are all in easy reach, and logical to use. Mazda hasnt made driving a "chore" but a pleasure. Fit and finish have held up in the Arizona heat, and the automatic climate control is spot on.

After running a 1987 626 to 200,000 miles several years ago (and still going strong!), I looked forward to a dynamic car from Mazda that fit my needs. My 2004 6S hatchback was definitely worth the wait. I may even consider buying out the lease. Pros: Gobs of cargo room, great Bose sound system, wonderful performance for a front-driver. Cons: cloth upholstery and headliner feel cheap, no auto-up/down on all windows, no full-service spare tire, TERRIBLE dealer experience for sales and service at two Mazda dealers in Las Vegas. I highly recommend the car but be wise with your shopping.

I bought my 6 brand new, I thought it looked really cool, I owned it til 6/2008, I only had about 25K on it... things were always wrong with it, first thing my headlights kept burning out I went thru 4 sets of bulbs over a 1 yr time frame next the transmission would shift randomly, and clunk all the time, dealership said nothing was wrong with it. Blew out vacuum hoses, brakes went out, battery was shot after 1 yr, there were many other things. The seats were hard as a rock, it was not safe on ice, handled very badly always got stuck in the snow, traction control (what a joke) the dash scratched so easily. I was not very happy with this car, I was so happy to trade it in.

I love this wagon! However, two things that are a bit faulty with the design. The seat fabric after 4 months on the drivers side had begun to show wear from getting in and out of the car. The left side support area, and the ground effects on drivers side is wiped clean by my pant leg each time I get in and out of the car. Not pretty. Other than that I LOVE THIS WAGON. Performance is outstanding, speed is there when needed. Great radio, heat/AC and LOOKS.

After long research and many test drives, new and used of wagons, crossovers and small SUVs, this first year wagon stole our hearts. You get a nice, clearly designed wagon with some zoom and great handling from a company with good reliability. We thought it blew away the Toyota Matrix, Subaru and Saab as well as the others.

  • Lots of Fun, All Around Good Car - 2005 Mazda Mazda6

I have owned this car 6 months and so far no problems. Good looking car that is fun to drive. Engine is fairly powerful and can easily merge onto highways as well as provide good passing power. My only complaint is the lack of a 6th gear. At 70 mph, the engine is at 3,300 RPMs. I have never owned a car that did that and it can be loud if you go even faster. Maybe with the automatic it is not as bad or loud? Anyway, overall good car. Also, has great storage capacity with the hatchback!

This car has it all!! It is totally maxed out in terms of accessories, mostly all standard, not like in other cars in the mid-size range, especially American manufactured cars. We have the leather package with Bose and moonroof, and I cant say enough about how comfortable it is. Its a real thrill to drive, acceleration is tops, and handles like a high-priced sports car. Doesnt have the "sedan" look of other cars in its class. We tried the Optima, Accord, Camry, and Passat, and none can match this great package.

  • Best Sedan EVER! - 2005 Mazda Mazda6

I wanted to get the V6 model, but couldnt afford it. Even though I had to "settle" for the 4 banger I am very impressed with its performance, gas mileage, and features. My last car was a Mazda MX-6 V6, and this has the same horsepower and performance, with better mileage and better interior. I love the sporty look and looks I get with this car! If you want a huge trunk (big enough to sleep in comfortably!). get the hatch -- you wont be disappointed.

If you want a fun driving experience that has room for the family-- the 6 is your answer -- it steers like a sports car and is tight... Great ride for the money! Try it youll like it ---
