This Year's Model Updates:

New hatchback and wagon body styles were added to the lineup at the end of 2004 and carry over unchanged for 2005. The optional automatic transmission on all V6 models has been upgraded from a five-speed to a six-speed unit.

Pros:
  • More fun to drive than most family cars, slick-shifting manual transmission, smooth power delivery, nicely appointed interior, multiple body styles.
Cons:

  • Something different in this segment - 2005 Mazda Mazda6

I was searching for a mid-size car with decent power, nice looking, and a V6-MTX combo to replace my aged Maxima. The 6 fit the bill, and since its made in Michigan, I could keep my Ford retiree FIL happy. It had a little over 80k when it bought it, and had a few minor issues that I have yet to deal with. Almost a year after buying it, Im still pleased with the way the car drives and handles. The factory Bose system was terrible, so I swapped the speakers for aftermarket... fyi you need to swap the amp too or it will sound worse. Power isnt fantastic, but sufficient for keeping things interesting. Looks nice and with the leather and sunroof, it feels like a more expensive car.

This car is great...I throughly enjoy driving it. I traded in a horrible Honda Element which during the first year became THE ELEMENT OF SURPRISE. The Element left me on the side of the road at 500 miles and Hondas reliability/customer service was of no assistance. I am now devoted to Mazda. The car is a thrill to drive on the highway with a mix of comfort and get up and go to get me past those crawlers . I have had a couple of minor problems with vibration noise that the dealership repaired quickly. No complaints.

  • Great Value Sport Wagon - 2005 Mazda Mazda6

Ive owned some amazing cars, mostly BMWs, but I was starting my own business and a family. The 6 sport wagon provided sport sedan handling in an affordable, reliable package. It had some minor problems while still under warranty, such as needing two new stereo head units, but has since been reliable. It drives wonderfully and I love the 5 speed manual. The turning radius is awful. Low RPM acceleration is pretty bad; there wasnt a need to gear it like a 4- cylinder. Its a fun highway cruiser and obviously does very well on corners. The quality of your tires will make a huge difference with this car. Sadly, there are no more sport wagons being produced by Mazda in the US.

I purchased my 2005 Mazda 6i sport in August 2005, brand new. Got a great deal on it, and have not regretted it once. I wanted one because of its sporty handling/appearance. I drove an Accord and was bored, then I drove the 6 and I drove it home the next day. I cant wait to see what the 2008 is going to be like. Hopefully at least as sports car like as the curent model. Love it and will buy another.

I purchased this vehicle and really LOVE IT! It really handles nice and for the money spent it was a steal.

  • Sporty wagon - 2005 Mazda Mazda6

My wife wanted another wagon even though our Passat wagon left me with a bad overall impression. So after doing my research, I decided to look at the Mazda 6. Boy, am I glad that I did! The car is very attractive and although I have owned for a few months, it has gotten more compliments than my Honda or VW ever did. The car satisfies my need for sportiness while meeting my wifes need for versatility. If anyone is seriously looking for a sporty "people mover," I strongly encourge them to take a look at this vehicle.

The Mazda comes with leather, manumatic 6 speed and comfortable seats that compare with any German make. The fit and finish at delivery was flawless and much to my surprise, the first 2500 miles have given me an average of 28.35 MPG with 80% highway driving at 75 MPH. The Bose audio system is outstanding for the jazz and big band sounds I like. On the winding roads of Kentucky and Wisconsin the wagon handles as well as most "sports" cars.

  • As Good as The Best - 2005 Mazda Mazda6

I have been looking for an entry level luxury car for several months. My problem is that every time I test drive an Acura TL, Infinity G35, BMWi, I get back into my Mazda and say "big deal". My two year old Mazda drives just as good as the luxury cars and after two years it still drives as quiet and firm as the day I bought it. The only exception has been the Lexus 330, but this car is deliberately not billed as a sports sedan so it does have a quieter and softer ride. P.S. The exterior styling of the Mazda it still as good as any of the luxury sports sedans.

I like my Mazda 6, its fun to drive, seems reliable, and is a good-looking sedan. Two negatives: 1 .I notice some acceleration hesitancies. 2. Its a thirsty car (high gas consumption).
