This Year's Model Updates:

New hatchback and wagon body styles were added to the lineup at the end of 2004 and carry over unchanged for 2005. The optional automatic transmission on all V6 models has been upgraded from a five-speed to a six-speed unit.

We just traded in a Lexus E300 (2000) for a new 2005 Mazda6 Sports Sedan, 6 cylinder, with all of the options. While its not as plush as my Lexus, it is much sportier and will be lots of fun! It has a roomy trunk and the backseat IS just as roomy as the Lexus. The ride and steering are different -- more like my old Volvo 850 turbo wagon (1996) -- tighter steering and I can feel the road. I really do like this car, though.

Traded in our 00 Sienna van. My husband and I both enjoy driving it. Sporty, fun to drive, good cargo room for family. Nice alternative to an SUV.

This car is any persons dream! It is extremely comfortable for long trips, fun for in town driving, and great for anyone in a hurry. This car zoom- zooms along and definitely lives up to the image Mazda puts out. Highly recommend this car for anyone who is looking for both affordability and fun!

I bought this new; the gas mileage was rated 21-27 and it took a year to reach that. On our last trip of 1000 miles we got from 25-30 which I thought was outstanding. Its fun to drive, corners nicely and has good brakes. The only problem Ive had is the air conditioner had to be worked on twice to get the proper cooling. Love the automatic climate control. Wish it had come with roof racks for my bike. Electric control for seats would have been great also, but its a good vehicle. Love the side air bags and safety features. It would be hard for a tall person to get in with a hat on.

  • Solid Sports Sedan - 2005 Mazda Mazda6

I picked up this car after my last one died without considering much else. I always liked the utility of four doors but wanted something sporty and equipped with a 5 or 6 spd, the Mazda seemed like an amazing value and I always admired the looks. The v6 is a solid piece, good for cruising and supplying passing power on the highway but a little weak before 3k RPMS. The manual transmission is a treat and one of the slickest shifting operations Ive used. Interior quality is better then what you pay for and the exterior has a fantastic and pleasant appeal. Gas mileage is marginally good, but I did opt for the v6 so any complaint is self inflicted. Overall love the car and the value it offers.

  • My 6 - 2005 Mazda Mazda6

When shopping for a new car, I wanted something sensible yet fun to drive. I must have driven at least 30 different cars. Each time I walked away feeling that it was ok, but something was missing. Then I drove the "6". I fell in love. I walked away feeling like "This is it! This is what Ive been waiting for." I bought my 6 two days later and a year later I still feel the same way.

  • Slick Car, Great Comfort and Best Buy - 2005 Mazda Mazda6
    By -

Car is designed and handles like a slick-looking sports car. Ride is quiet and handling is tight. Interior layout is wonderful with ergonomics that rival high end luxury cars. Instrumentation is accented with nice red backlighting and slick looking silver trim. The 5 speed shifting is smooth and acceleration is quick and nimble. Storage space is plentiful especially with the rear seats folded down. This car is well built and is the car for people wanting a sports car for a family. A best buy!

Although I just got this car I love it so far. Its exactly what I wanted except I could not get a 2005 model with a sun roof. Otherwise, the sport model looks amazing. A nice blend of sporty and refinement. Given its rather taught suspension it rides very well, is quiet at highway speeds and offers respectable interior room. Acceleration is very good and braking seems to be decent.

  • Excessive Oil Consumption - 2005 Mazda Mazda6
    By -

Indicated oil consumption of 1 qt /1000 miles, leaves an engine vulnerable when the car design doesnt have an oil light that will illuminate when oil is low. This spells disaster for a car owner. Low end torque minimal, must wind the engine up all a time when starting from a dead stop. This is probably not good for an engine either, especially one constantly consuming oil.
