Overview & Reviews
New hatchback and wagon body styles are scheduled as midyear additions. Minor adjustments to the 6's optional equipment packages are the only other changes for 2004.
- More fun to drive than most family sedans, slick shifting manual transmission, smooth power delivery, nicely appointed interior, multiple body styles.

A really fun-to-drive family sedan. - 2004 Mazda Mazda6
By denali856 - September 25 - 9:26 amI REALLY enjoy driving this car. The handling is really tight and the car LOVES twisty roads and high revs. Pluses: Driveability, seating comfort, performance (at high revs). Minuses: Base-level stereo is only OK, turning radius is wide, fuel economy is mediocre (~24). The interior is nice if a bit bland, but the seats are quite comfy. The controls and gauges are well-designed and easy to reach/read. Coming up on 17k miles and everything is still tight, no rattles, so reliability so far has been good. I marked down the performance because of a slight lack in low-end torque, but with the 5-speed sport-auto transmission its easy to keep the revs where you want them when you want to really drive.

Great car! - 2004 Mazda Mazda6
By tm999 - September 13 - 10:40 amI have over 70,000 miles on my Mazda6 S (manual trans) and Im completely satisfied with its performance and reliability up to this point. Other than the stock Michelin tires which were dreadful in the snow I have absolutely no complaints. Oil and brake pads are all that its needed for service so far. I average around 24mpg with 3.0 engine and manual transmission. If you like sporty ride (a little stiff for some), decent motor, great handling, nice interior, reasonable mileage and great reliability I highly recommend this car.

By Fastback - September 11 - 10:00 amBest new car yet (my 5th). Initial quality excellent, and absolutely no problems to date. Drives like on rails, stops on a dime, and just feels great at all times.

In Town Mileage is over stated - 2004 Mazda Mazda6
By Guzler - August 15 - 2:00 amI have a Mazda 6s with a 6 cyl and automatic. I have to keep looking at the specs as I can not get near the miles per gallon in town as they are stating. I am barely getting 12 to 14 miles per gallon. Maybe I have a heavy foot but I try to be easy on the pedal and still the mileage in town is poor. I was pleasantly surprised then to find out that the highway miles per gallon was close to what they had estimated and so not all is lost on gas. But if you are looking for performance and not gas mileage, then this car is for you. Fun to drive and some real pep when you need it.

Sport Tourer - 2004 Mazda Mazda6
By john alkire - August 9 - 6:06 pmReplaced a Acura. I needed room for golf clubs and a safe fast driver. I bought the 5 speed manual which really makes the car a much better performer than the auto. I have yet to visit the dealer except to get mats for the back. Very quick, not as smooth (engine) as Honda/Toyota/BMW.

studd mobile - 2004 Mazda Mazda6
By bsingle - August 4 - 10:00 amthis car has the oppurtunity to take over the sport compact market place.the only thing holding it back is that mazda gives you no choice in the packaging department.its either all or nothing.some of us want the moonroof, but not at the expense of having to add a body kit.
