Model Overview:

Mazda has a tradition of building entertaining small cars, and the Mazda 3 fits right in with its sharp handling and engaging nature. But it's also a practical, affordable runabout that's available as either a sedan or a handy four-door hatchback. A Mazda 3 of any vintage is worth consideration, but the 3's interior quality has improved dramatically over time. Likewise, fuel economy has emerged as a real strength in recent years.

Introduced in 2004, the Mazda 3 has always been one of those cars that feels a little bit special when you get behind the wheel. Some shoppers might find the ride too firm, but if you like to drive, you'll probably take a shine to this compact Mazda. Passenger room is the same in the sedan and hatchback, but the latter offers more cargo room. If fuel economy is a priority, note that 2012 and later models benefit from updated engine technology that helps the car return significantly better mileage.

I researched vehicles in this class for about a year and chose the Mazda3 as best option. I am very pleased thus far. I got 38.9 miles per gallon on initial interstate trip 1000 miles and it rolled right down the road without exhausting me. The glove box holds a lot, and it has nice little cubbies and cup holders. It has good pep. On my way home from work I have a terrible entrance ramp to get on to interstate and it is scary. My Mazda gets right out there with plenty of pep. I added a few little accessories to doll it up, like a spoiler and a mask, and it actually turnes some heads. Two improvements would be key fob for trunk and better quality carpet. I am very pleased thus far, ZOOM ZOOM!

Got this car last month. Its amazing. I like its engine - much better than 1.8L Honda Civic. Definitely would recommend. Totally worth the price.

  • GREAT CAR! - 2010 Mazda Mazda3

I dont usually follow up to write reviews, but this car is awesome! I only had about $18,000 to spend on a new car and wanted to get the most bang for my buck. I had driven a 99 Protege for 10 years and loved the reliability of the Mazda brand. After looking at the Corolla, Elantra, Civic and Altima - the Mazda 3 stood out as the best pick. IMO, the Mazda 3 exceeded all of the other cars in terms of looks, quality and performance for the money. I park next to a BMV and Acura every day at work and feel that my new Mazda 3 looks just as great as those cars do. Now I look forward to my morning commute because I get to drive such a nice car. Honestly, I couldnt be happier with my pick!

After driving a 2001 Toyota Corolla for 6 years, all I can say is wow!! What a difference. The car came with everything I wanted and more. The acceleration and braking are fantasic for any car, let alone a compact. The engine is refined and never loses its punch, and the sport shift automatic tranny is a blast. The ride is much stiffer than my old Corolla, but its not harsh. It has all the airbags standard. The handling is top notch and all the safety nanny stuff can be shut off so you can explore the cars potential. Left with the car 3 hours after the test drive. The styling inside and out is unexpectedly refined and sporty for a car in this class.

  • Yet another engine failed - 2008 Mazda Mazda3

"It must have love but its over now..."Just as so many of them, my engine failed at just 28k very light miles. Bought the car used (Certified) at d Mazda dealership with only 19k miles. No warning signs, no lights, not even signs of oil consumption. Noticed a subtle rattling noise over 2500 RPM, took it to the dealer - death certificate issued in 2 hours. The car was still under Mazda power train warranty. Mazda Motors of America refused to honor it. Used top shelf synthetic oil, name-brand filters, never seen jiffy-lube places...kept all records and receipts and yet - warranty denied due to "lack of maintenance". Save yourself the trouble, do your research, on the 2.3l engine. Dont buy.

  • After testing othwer cars... - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

Being 51, I am not ready to give up fun for a Buick just yet. I tested many vehicles in the last 3 months and gave each one a very thorough review. Honda, Toyota, Scion, and Nissan were included in the mix. The Mazda3 won hands down in a class that used to be dominated by Honda and Toyota. I have owned 2 Hondas and a Nissan before, but they never gave me the rush that this gem does. Its just plain fun to drive and handles like a dream. Zoom Zoom...

After 3 months of research, this was my choice over a the Civic, Matrix, Focus ZX5, Corolla, and Protege 5 (although the protege was a close one, due to the lower price) Havent regretted it at all, not for anything. Just wish Id had the cash to spring for the Navigation option, as geeky as that seemed at first, after using an aftermarket one for a few months, im completely hooked, even though im just a normal joe- shmoe with a 30k salary. if you can swing it, get the gps navigation

  • Perfectly Perfect! - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

After driving a gas guzzing, bulky SUV for the last two years I was unsure how I would respond to going back to driving a compact sedan again. I couldnt be happier with my choice! I researched several different cars in this category & was preparing to join the carbon copy car owenership world of Hondas & Toyotas. Price was an issue & I thought those were my only options. Thankfully the Mazda 3 passed me on the street during my search. I was thrilled to find out that it fit perfectly into my price range. The design is sleek & original. It turns heads wherever I go. It definitely stands out among the others. Test drive it, you will fall in love!
