  • Mazda 3 Hatch Kicks BMW Butt - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

After having an extremely high car payment and maintence bills with my 2000 BMW 32i I, I started shopping for a more reliable car with a lower price- point. I had owned a Mazda before and was at the dealership to look at an RX-8 when I saw this funky, cool Mazda3 5-Door on the lot. I was intrigued. I took it for a spin and was hooked. It has an engine that will move, looks that will turn heads and features that rival the BMW. And it cost about half of what I paid for the BMW four years ago. I walked out of there spending $24K including TTL and got a fantastic car with xenon, navigation, leather and more. Mazda 3 5-Door. A great car--a great value.

What can I say? Its my first new car. But once I saw it, I had to get it. The test drive convinced me, and the fact that it looks BETTER than the Matrix/Vibe, and gets a LOT of attention makes it even better. The ride is fun (a bit stiff), but it kicks!!

I purchased this vehicle for my wife and she loves it and she actually let me drive it. The car is very peppy and when you need the power it is there to deliver. Great off the line for an econo-box. Xenon ,6 Disc Moonroof and the ABS air bags Package. No DVD Navigation. Manual. Paid $18,454.00. We got lava orange (see the color in person). We looked at two other cars the PT Cruiser Turbo and the Toyota Matrix XRS. The PT is great however it just costs too much and the Matrix just plain out stunk, because you have to rev the heck out of the engine to get any power. What sold us on the 3 was the safety features. All in all, this is a great buy.

Picked up my Mazda 3s sedan in black mica one month ago. Car offers good bang for the buck and the engine pulls hard...best towards the top of 2nd gear. The 5 speed shifts smoothly although the clutch could be a little heavier. Car looks good and the rear end is sporty I think. Sound system is good (get the moonroof 6 CD package!) and the glovebox is roomy too. Four wheel disc brakes with nice wheels are a welcoming feature that not many cars in this price range offer. The console is good and the trunk has plenty of room.

Engine is a 2.3L with 160 crank HP. With this displacement, you could produce at least 200 crank HP by reworking the head and remapping the ECU. Exterior is unique and modern. The tire selection is the only drawback as they do not perform well on any vehicle. Interior is clean and easy to view. Material seems to be of high quality. Driver cockpit is a little tight. Performance is a little lacking. Though cornering is nice, the rear slips at high speeds. This is due to the tires and maybe the small rear sway bar. Power to the wheels is a bit hesitant while already moving at normal speeds, but on the other hand, speed does increase without even noticing.

I have had this car for 3 months now and I still have a grin on my face everytime I drive it. I have a MZ3, cloth, TPMS, manual with navigation, and xenons. I recieved from my new car from parents and them being previous mazda owners (91 Mazda 626) of ten years and 400,000 miles I know it will last. The only downside is the power which it lacks, so get a manual it makes the drive more enjoyable. Performance parts are becoming steadly available so that can be fixed with a little tunning me being a teenager in all. The flip up navigation is nice also, not just for looks. To sum this up, this car is for the consumer that whats a budget vehicle with great looks and "moderate" power.

  • Best small car by far! - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

This is my first "new" car, and it has been very fun to drive. The Mazda3 has the best combination of interior and exterior style around, and I love just looking at it. Aside from very marginal A/C, and excessive rear brake dust, this car have been trouble free (4000 miles so far). The acceleration from the 2.3 engine is smooth and the auto trans shifts very smoothly, and I love the manumatic function. Also the ride is comfortable / sporty without being harsh.

  • 2.3L Engine Prone to Failure - 2004 Mazda Mazda3
    By -

Ive owned this car since day one. It is 9-1/2 years old and 103,000 miles on it. Ive done all scheduled maintenance at the dealer. Ive had a problem for a few years where this car has been chewing through oil but no one could out where it was going (no leaks, no visible burning, no blown head gasket). Im adding about a quart every 750 miles. Insane. I finally took it to another dealer with a better service department when the first failed to identify the problem. The piston rings have failed. The only solution... a new engine for $7,200. The more research I do, the more I see this is a common problem but Mazda is refusing to acknowledge it.
