Im very pleased with the purchace of this vehicle. Very solidly built little car. the only concerns Im having with it is 1) A/C is very weak. 2) passengers side front window makes loud pop noise when window is raised to top just as its closing. 3) rear wheel brake dust is very bad.

Replaced the transmission. Twice. Motor "clicks," my mechanic thought it was going to throw a rod. Six months later, still clicking. Front end needed to be rebuilt at 102k. Roughest running four-cylinder Ive ever seen. Dealer said thats a characteristic of the motor. Hunh.

  • AXELA - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

I bought this car because it took my breath away. Overall style, class, ride and just looks. I have driven and looked at many other cars, they didnt come close. I looked at this car once, wanted it without driving it. Then I drove it. So I bought it. Since then, it has been lowered, I added exhaust, changed the badging to "Axela," the Japanese version. This car is 2 years old, and I still get looks. I love driving my car, and all my friends love it too. I went from a beat up Honda del Sol, to this. This car is truly best-in-class. I dont care what anyone says. Toyotas and Hondas last forever, but I dont see a Civic or Corolla that looks or drives like this.

I got this car for my birthday the week it came out, and I love it. Its style is very unique and modern, the craftsmanship is great, as is the performance. I truly belive this car is worth more than the price it is selling for.

  • Mazda3 is the way to go - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

Its been a blast to drive. Suprisingly comfortable ride for a small sports sedan. It handles well and has good steering feel. It looks like a sports sedan. Well-equiped and priced below what Id expect. I feel like Im in a more expensive, substantial car. But its also rated as an economy car. I get about 28 mpg mixed city/highway. The 160hp engine has plenty of low-end to provide a spirited drive and the 17" alloys and v-rated performance tires add to its looks and credentials. I have a feeling youll be seeing a lot more of them after Consumer Reports does their evaluation in the August issue. This is a nicely-appointed and well-built/designed car.

Fun to drive car. I have done 6K miles on it already. The car handles really firm; fun to drive around corners. Wish the trunk had a handle to open. I think heating/cooling is not that great, compared to the Acura Integra that I owned before. I have the sports package, and I bought it for $19K total. I think the shift on the manual 3rd gear is not as smooth as the others. I had a crash sensor recall already.

  • A Civilized GTI? - 2004 Mazda Mazda3
    By -

Twenty years after the original GTI came out we have a better "pocket rocket" than ever before. I have recently purchased the 5-speed hatchback with few options. Only ABS/Side air bags were added to the base model. There is very little not to love about this car, though it could be better... the price could be another $20,000 too. A TERRIFIC value by todays standards. 17" wheel/tires; A quick shifting/close ratio 5-speed; A taut suspension and seats; Power windows/locks/remote, and the list goes on, it would seem, forever. The A/C is weak. The driving position and view of the instruments could be better. Rear/side view could be better too.
