This Year's Model Updates:

For 2006, the Mazda 3 benefits from the addition of variable valve timing to the 2.0-liter engine and the availability of a five-speed automatic transmission on models with the 2.3-liter engine. Additionally, the 2.3-liter engine is now PZEV-certified in California, Maine, Massachusetts, New York and Vermont. Models with air conditioning get a pollen filter and outside temperature display on the center console. ABS and variable-intermittent front wipers become part of the standard features list for all 2.3-liter models. Also, a couple of new Touring trims are added to the lineup.

Pros:
  • Superbly refined suspension, steering and brakes, sharp styling inside and out, smooth engines, excellent build and materials quality, hatchback utility.
Cons:
  • Ride might be a tad stiff for some, tight rear legroom, so-so fuel economy with 2.3-liter engine.

  • HATE MY MAZDA3!!! - 2006 Mazda Mazda3

Ever since I bought my Mazda 3 I have regretted it! Before this car I owned an Infiniti and before that a Honda, but nothing compares to this. It is by far the worst car I have ever purchased! If I could go back I would. It is loud, small and cheaply made. The only thing going for this car is the gas mileage and the overall exterior look.

I purchased this car 5 days ago. I have had 4 Beemers looking to race me. (I didnt of course). People young and old look at this car. Lots of flash for the money.

We love our new Mazda3. We got the fully loaded touring edition with the sport 5 speed auto transmission. We have not had an automatic for 25 years. This is a pleasure to drive in both auto and manual mode. I just drove the length of Mulholland Highway today, switching between the two shift modes. It really is a pleasure to feel the quality and performance of a well-made small car. Works well for shopping trips also. All the grand touring extras seem to be worth the extra money ... trip computer, high tech adjustable headlights, premium audio, etc. They all work and we are using them. Great car.

I love the handling. I can hang a turn that makes my wife nervous. I smile when she acknowledges how well the car performed. The one thing I have a problem with is the pesky reverse lock out Mazda put on the 5M. Every once in a while you can not get it R. I was about to take it and have them slap a new tranny in and then I read the manual. It states leave it in neutral and let the clutch out and re-try. It works and Im trying to "train" the sensor I hope, so it wont lock me out.

I LOVE this car.Its just fast enough, handles maneuvering like a Porsche, possesses features that will make you think you spent more, and looks absolutely commanding on the road. Ive owned the winning blue 5 door touring wagon for about a year now and here are just a few things that I didnt hear much about in other reviews: 1) If you live in an area with snow and hills, you WILL have a little trouble in the snow. There were about 3 days last winter when I just spun around. Consider winter tires in Dec/Jan, 2) Replacing the tires with original equipment tires will cost you about $225 PER tire...the cost for performance, handling, and looks. The tires are very wide and thin.

I bought my 06 GT 5-door to replace my 04 3 sedan, which I loved aside from the cargo carrying limitations. I have 3 dogs, and occasionally have to transport them 150 miles to visit my mom. I also went for the GT hatch because of the new features (for me anyway) such as leather (heated) seats, auto climate control, information center, auto lights/wipers, and 5 speed auto.

I have a automatic Mazda 3 S and I love my car. I usually drive it in the manual mode and I get better gas mileage than when it is in full automatic. The AC takes awhile to cool the car (especially because my car is dark silver with black interior) so I got the windows tinted and that solved the problem. I listen to a variety of music and the sound system handles all of the music I play very well. I especially love my sunroof and 6-disc in dash CD player. The only things I have to complain about is the fact that there is no truck release on the key fob (I am a guy and I could care less about a panic button) and I wish it got a little bit better mileage in the city.

This car is awesome. I love Mazdas since I owned a MX3 and the Mazda 3 holds the mark very well. I always want to look at the car and get in for a drive. I recommend the purchase.

  • A Great Value and Car - 2006 Mazda Mazda3

I bought my 3s new in 2006 and am very happy with the car. It looks great inside and out. It also gets pretty good gas mileage. I get about 32mpg on the highway and about 28mpg with all around driving. The access to the trunk is a little small so I cant fit things like my guitar amp in there but thats not a big deal. Tires lasted as expected and wore out around 42000 or so. I changed from the Goodyear Eagle RSA to Yokohama S.Drive. The new tires cost less and grip the road even better than the original tires. The seats are very comfortable especially on long trips. Its a great car and all for less than $20k brand new. I did add a cold air intake and catback to the car too.

  • Fanatastic Car!! - 2006 Mazda Mazda3

This car is fantastic! Never gives me any problems! The seats are extremely comfy no matter how long the drive. The fuel economy has been great (about 25-28 mpg) It also has a HUGE glove compartment and huge trunk. There is so much storage space! For some reason mine vibrates when idling at a red light and jerks when going from the 3rd to 4th gear. It never has left me stranded anywhere, but when my mother drove it in the winter it left her stranded at safeway and also overheated. But I have never once had a problem. But my mothers 2007 Mazda 3 GT is smooth, runs fantastic and never has a problem. These are great cars and I would suggest buying one!
