Model Overview:

Mazda has a tradition of building entertaining small cars, and the Mazda 3 fits right in with its sharp handling and engaging nature. But it's also a practical, affordable runabout that's available as either a sedan or a handy four-door hatchback. A Mazda 3 of any vintage is worth consideration, but the 3's interior quality has improved dramatically over time. Likewise, fuel economy has emerged as a real strength in recent years.

Introduced in 2004, the Mazda 3 has always been one of those cars that feels a little bit special when you get behind the wheel. Some shoppers might find the ride too firm, but if you like to drive, you'll probably take a shine to this compact Mazda. Passenger room is the same in the sedan and hatchback, but the latter offers more cargo room. If fuel economy is a priority, note that 2012 and later models benefit from updated engine technology that helps the car return significantly better mileage.

THE SURPRISE IS THAT IT DOES NOT DRIVE HANDLE OR LOOK LIKE AN ECONOMY CAR. THE INTERIOR FOR ITS CLASS IS OUTSTANDING. THE 17 INCH WHEEL ENHANCE THE RIDE AND APPEARANCE. THERE ARE NONE IN THIS CLASS THAT GIVE YOU SUCH VALUE FOR THE DOLLAR (IE THE LIST OF STANDARD EQUIPMENT IS IMPRESSIVE).

I bought the Mazda 3 after years of owning Toyotas & Hondas. I have never had any major mechanical problems with any of these vehicles. Was I surprised when after owning my 2004 Mazda 3 2.3, my manual transmission was stuck in second gear. Now after 16 months and 11,000 miles my 3 is at a dealership getting the transmission rebuilt. Its had 2 recalls and is also waiting for the glove box to be replaced at another dealership because it sticks. The only plus is Mazda paid for the tow and the dealer is paying for my rental car. I will NEVER buy another vehicle manufactured by FORD motor company. There is definitely truth in the saying you that a FORD will be (F)ound (O)n the (R)oad (D)ead.

Ive had my Mazda for two weeks now and I cant stop smiling. :) Every day I discover new reasons to love it. It handles like a dream and I love all the extras that come standard and all the extras that were added. I feel like I got a car that is pretty much loaded for only about $3000.00 extra. How in the world did I ever do without radio controls (which came standard) on the steering wheel? I love the zoom from 0- 60. My only problem is trying to set a good example for my teenagers. I want to race down the street in this car everywhere I go but I hold myself back. When I do cut loose on a stretch of highway - IT MOVES! I feel like a kid in a candy store.

I have a 2.0 liter, 5 speed manual that I bought new in 2008, which I use for commuting to work in a rural area. 175000 miles now and still get 34-38 mpg (depends on the tires and season). The only part replaced was a new power steering pump was replaced as a recall. Other than that, changed tires every 40,000 miles (you have to have frequent tire rotations due to positive camber), oil changes every 5000 miles, coolant flush. I have not even changed sparkplugs, needed an alignment, or even needed to have the brake pads replaced.

The Mazda3 is hands down the best car to buy out of all the compacts if youre looking for value and maybe a little respect on the road. I test drove every car in this class trying to find a car that wouldnt bust my bank and was still fun to drive. Nothing compared to the Mazda 3 when it comes to the fun to drive factor and the amount of options for the price. If you like driving a manual transmission make sure you test drive this car. Nothing else compares when it comes to 5 speed manuals at this price. Ive been nothing but impressed with my Mazda 3 so far. Mazda has done a great job of reinventing themselves.

I finally logged 2000 miles and decided to run this pup up HWY north of SF and let me tell you this locomotive took off like Tony Dorsett when he won the Heisman and the engine was relaxed and suspension was just working like it was made to finally but never a tire squeal was a heard . I was not pushing this thing to see what it would do, I was dying it to see what it would do while I was still in a relaxed state, and that my fellow Mazda drivers was fast enough to have literally every single car move off to the right and let me pass without even trying. Effortless and incredibly balanced is all I can say - yes folks as near to perfect as any car I can say I have driven-

It love my mazda 3!! i got it this summer from my dad for my first car! I got a grey one and i love the automatic/manual feature. I also love the amber lights and the easy-to-use system. It also drives very smooth, and the trunk is very roomy!

This is a great vehicle! We lost our 99 Maxima (great car) in a wreck in October. We checked out the Mazda 6 first, then the 3 and fell in love. I cant remember the last time I had this much fun driving a 4 door. It goes wherever you want ... stops before you think it can, and begs to be pushed harder. Its never a boring ride in a 3.

I compared the 3i with the Corolla and the Civic. The 3 had the quietest ride, best handling and was the roomiest of the choices. My only concern was gas mileage, but through the first 2 tanks Im at about 28 MPG with an auto for hurry-up and stop driving. Very comfortable interior with a pretty decent factory sound system.
