Model Overview:

Mazda has a tradition of building entertaining small cars, and the Mazda 3 fits right in with its sharp handling and engaging nature. But it's also a practical, affordable runabout that's available as either a sedan or a handy four-door hatchback. A Mazda 3 of any vintage is worth consideration, but the 3's interior quality has improved dramatically over time. Likewise, fuel economy has emerged as a real strength in recent years.

Introduced in 2004, the Mazda 3 has always been one of those cars that feels a little bit special when you get behind the wheel. Some shoppers might find the ride too firm, but if you like to drive, you'll probably take a shine to this compact Mazda. Passenger room is the same in the sedan and hatchback, but the latter offers more cargo room. If fuel economy is a priority, note that 2012 and later models benefit from updated engine technology that helps the car return significantly better mileage.

  • The new standard! - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

Ive had mine since May 14 and it never ceases to impress me. The Mazda rips through curves like a sport sedan and gets plenty of power from the 2.0 liter enginge regardless of transmission. The automatic shifts quickly but I mostly use the manual mode for better fuel economy. Some will find the ride too firm but I prefer to feel the road. Fit and finish is excellent and the controls are very well designed. Speed sensing steering is standard (gets firmer as you go faster. The ABS/side air bags/side air curtains package is a step above the norm for this class and is packaged with things most drivers want anyways (requires air conditioning and power switches).

This is the best looking hatchback car Ive ever seen. I went to the dealership and I was greatly impressed. There was no need to test drive... My father purchased it for me directly from the showroom. We drove off the dealership feeling really good. That day we got at least 4 honks and countless amounts of stares. And all my friends want to drive my car.

  • Great car but 2nd car kinda funky - 2010 Mazda Mazda3

I had this car for a year and really liked it. I took it on a trip to Louisana and Alabama and was comfortable the entire way. Shifting to 2nd gear has to be precise but I havent had any problems otherwise. It looks great, has nice room and is fun to drive and park.

This is the best small car out there. After driving a Toyota Matrix and Mazda3 back to back I bought the 3 on the spot. This car is fun. I love the stereo, the interior, and the 17" wheels. Handles like a dream and my bike fits in the back.

  • Unsurprisingly Suprising Quick - 2008 Mazda Mazda3

I bought my 3 a few weeks ago and do mostly highway driving. Although the fuel economy is not up to par with Honda, it does better than my previous auto. Road noise is a bit loud over 70MPH, but the car has super handling. The responsiveness and handling makes you feel connected to the road. A definite best-buy for its class. Very Pleased. 2.0L is great, but 2.3L is better, if you have the extra $1000-$1500

I bought my 2004 mazda3 used in 2006 with about 30k miles. Water pump died at 60k, alternator fried at 80k. Transmission crumped at 120k (ouch!). Fun to drive, surprisingly smooth on the highway for a 4-cylinder, and a good looking car inside and out. Id buy another one, but probably opt for a 5-speed next time.

  • Just Simply Awesome Car - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

I will just tell you that I sell cars for a living. I want say what brand but lets just say Honda makers love them. This Mazda m3s 5 speed I just bought is awesome. Awesome styling, awesome ride, and a hoot to drive. The looks are going to drive compact car makers to the limit to catch up. If you want a great quality built car for 17,000.00, this is it.

  • Dangerous Gauges - 2007 Mazda Mazda3

Speedometer gauge is in beautiful gauge cluster. Unfortunately speedometer is recessed so far and covered by shadow, it is impossible to read at speeds up to 50 mph. It can be read only by bending down deep and losing view of the road. There should be a recall and improvement. This situation is so dangerous, I intend to notify the TSB.

  • Mazda3 driving performance - 2006 Mazda Mazda3
    By -

I bought my Mazda3 in 2006 since than I put over 42000 miles on the vehicle. I have had very few problems with the vehicle and the ones I did have were quickly resolved by the dealership. I like the performance and so far the durability of the vehicle. I hope to see Mazda continue the Mazda3 line and improve upon it. So far I think the 3 is just as good as the Honda civic, however I will know for sure if the car makes it to 150000 plus miles with minimal repairs.
