Model Overview:

Mazda has a tradition of building entertaining small cars, and the Mazda 3 fits right in with its sharp handling and engaging nature. But it's also a practical, affordable runabout that's available as either a sedan or a handy four-door hatchback. A Mazda 3 of any vintage is worth consideration, but the 3's interior quality has improved dramatically over time. Likewise, fuel economy has emerged as a real strength in recent years.

Introduced in 2004, the Mazda 3 has always been one of those cars that feels a little bit special when you get behind the wheel. Some shoppers might find the ride too firm, but if you like to drive, you'll probably take a shine to this compact Mazda. Passenger room is the same in the sedan and hatchback, but the latter offers more cargo room. If fuel economy is a priority, note that 2012 and later models benefit from updated engine technology that helps the car return significantly better mileage.

  • I love it - 2012 Mazda Mazda3

I traded in my Honda Civic for this car and I am now a Mazda guy after loving my Honda. I test drove and researched many of makes and models, but ended up finding Mazda was just a better car and then the price made it even better. The car is a blast to drive and I do drive very hard, but still return an average of 34mpg for 50/50 city/hwy driving. The car handles great, but does have a tight suspension where I feel all the bumps, but that is because the roads in Indiana are awful. The controls are great and easy to use. (no navigation). There is plenty of room for 4 adults and our luggage. I love the versatility of the Hatchback.

  • Absolute BEST value under $20,000 - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

This is undoubtedly the best car I have ever owned. Performance is excellent, the shift it yourself auto is way cool, easy to use, and fun! Purists should stick to the 5-speed though, which is one of the best Ive ever tested. This car looks sooo cool, and gets noticed. Build quality - incredible. Feels like it should have cost at least $25K. Razor-sharp handling, terrific road feel, dead-on straight line steering center, excellent brakes. Interior ergonomics are outstanding. Beats Honda, Toyota (snooze) and Nissan hands-down; styling, performance, versatility, standard features, ergonomics, driving satisfaction (FUN!) value, AND warranty. Youve read - now go buy and ENJOY!

  • WOW! - 2005 Mazda Mazda3

I love my 05 Mazda3s 4door. It took me by surprise when I drove it! What a fun car to drive. It handles the winding rocky mountain roads great with no slipping around corners and takes a steep hill with any SUV. I get a lot of compliments on it. the basic reaction is " WOW I didnt know Mazda had such cool cars!" Drive one, you will buy it!

  • Unreliable so far - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

Loved this car at first. Fun to look at and fun to drive. However, the automatic transmission failed after 1,500 miles of normal driving, and am currently waiting for a brand new transmission. Overall, the car has good road handling and steering is good.

Impressive feature set when compared to the price. When you drive the Mazda 3 you cant help but feel like you are in a much more expensive vehicle.

Bought M3 back in May after trading 03 Civic EX Coupe. This is definitely the best compact out there due to the refined interior, impressive acceleration, and nimble handling. No other compact Ive driven in this price range has the ability to "wow" me like the Mazda. My 5-speed Touring has leather, sunroof, 6-disc changer, and Sirius with an MSRP right at $20k. Ive heard the factory tires do not last too long, but considering the way this car makes me want to drive, I can see why they do not last. Sure, the rear seat is small, but it is a compact. All in all, no regrets!
