This Year's Model Updates:

The MPV gets a facelift for 2004 that includes a new hood, headlamps, front fenders, grille, side skirts and alloy wheels. A rear air conditioner and four-wheel disc brakes are now standard.

Pros:
  • Compact and maneuverable, confident road manners, roll-down windows in the sliding doors.
Cons:
  • Lacks the passenger/cargo space and power found in competitors.

This is our second MPV and this one is great. I like the electric doors, rearview mirror that darkens, DVD, and this one gets better gas mileage than our 2001 did. Weve been getting 22 mpg in town driving. Its quiet and rides nicely.

the price value for money. we compared this with a Sienna, and we find there is a $7000 difference (incl the premium we have to pay to the dealer). Over all - very satisfactory.

  • MPV is nearly perfect - 2004 Mazda MPV

The MPV is by far the sexiest minivan on the road, and it has plenty of room in all rows. The controls are awesome, and the shift lever over the air conditioning is not a problem. Acceleration is great even with only 200 HP. I wouldnt say it corners like a car, but it does corner well and takes bumps with hardly a twitch that make my Nissan Sentra shudder. The controls on the steering wheel are fabulous and the wheel itself is very comfortable to hold. See Favorite Features below for more compliments. My main gripe: mileage is 15/21, although Im still tweaking the tire pressure.

  • What a great deal!! - 2004 Mazda MPV

The wife and I finally purchased one after two years of mulling it over. We couldnt pass up the deal--LX with 4-seasons, Traction-side airbags, LX Plus, roof rack, for $20,500 plus tax, and 3.9% financing. Its ride is unlike any other minivans. In fact, the suspension is downright firm (surprising, almost BMW-ish?), and it handles great. On top of that, its the best looking mini out there, inside and outside. The size is just right, power is just right, and Im glad I made the purchase. P.S.--did they change the console from 03 to 04? The gear shift lever only blocks the temp wheel and a/c button--it never blocks the radio for me.

  • Loving it so far - 2004 Mazda MPV

It may be a bit early to tell, but so far Im thrilled that we decided on the MPV. I cant find but one flaw, the gear shifter, when in D is in the way of the volume control and the A/C on/off switch. The van handles great and doesnt feel like any minivan Ive ever driven. Interior is quiet but sporty. Looking forward to a long-term relationship with this MPV!

  • Best Van for the Buck!!! - 2004 Mazda MPV

We bought this Van for $21,000 from the dealer brand new. We looked at the Odyssey, and Sienna first but couldnt justify the cost of those other vans. The MPV is stylish and the power sliding doors always gets comments and looks from bystanders! It also handles like a car much better than a camry or an accord!!!I love my MPV!!!Its also not as cumbersome as the other vans this is good since the wife drives it most of the time and it fits in compact spaces. We used to have an SUV before this and that felt like a truck.I highly recommend this van if you have a small family.

We purchased this van for the family. Our 61" son is very comfortable inside and it handles like a dream. Dash panel controls are easy to manipulate and the radio/cruise buttons on the steering wheel are a great plus. We LOVE this vehicle! The ride is extremely quiet.

  • Good Quality - 2004 Mazda MPV

Overall the MPV is good quality but a very hard ride. Having struts instead of shocks makes a big difference in the ride. I get only 21mpg on the road and about 17 in town. The short wheel base also contributes to the harder ride. On a 10 scale I would give the MPV a 7

  • Loved this Van - 2004 Mazda MPV

I never had much wrong with my mazda mpv. I drove it for almost 8 yrs. It only had alittle over 100,000 miles on it. I replaced all my coil packs, vacum hose, and brakes. it ran as smoothe as it did the day I bought it. I was in an accident and they totaled it. I looked for another one but none close to me. I like my other van now but miss my Mazda Alot.

  • Great small minivan - 2004 Mazda MPV
    By -

My wife and I did a lot of research before buying this minivan. We narrowed it down to the Toyota Sienna and the Mazda MPV. The size of the vehicle was the primary concern because we have a small two car garage attached to our Cape style house. I drove both the Sienna and the MPV into the garage when test-driving. The MPV is smaller, and therefore was a more comfortable fit. When we test drove both vehicles, the Sienna had a smoother ride, but the braking was more laborious. The MPV felt more sporty, and the braking was much easier. The Sienna had slightly better gas mileage (1 mpg better). However, the MPV just had so many more features for less money - and all of that with a government 5 star crash rating.
