Overview & Reviews
Mazda adds power to the MPV in the form of a 200-horsepower V6 engine governed by a five-speed automatic transmission, which is just what the doctor ordered for this previously underpowered minivan. The MPV also gains power-sliding doors, available 17-inch alloy wheels, traction control, an improved braking system and revised suspension tuning.
- Compact and maneuverable, confident handling manners, roll-down windows in sliding doors.
- Limited maximum cargo capacity, lacks some features found in the other minivans.

The best small minivan out there! - 2002 Mazda MPV
By Saxoplay - March 20 - 2:00 amThis is my 2nd MPV....first one was a 2000 model. I liked it a lot....my only complaint was the lack of power. So upon reading that the 2002 models would have a 3.0L engine, I decided to upgrade. The extra power and the powered sliding doors (I have small children how dont like closing doors when dropped off at school) were worth the upgrade.

Excellent van so far. - 2002 Mazda MPV
By mayday2 - March 3 - 10:00 amWe didnt want a huge van, so we tried the MPV. It has many of the same features as the Odyssey, but smaller and less cost. We have take a couple of trips and driven it around town, and it has performed very well so far. It also handles nice for a mini-van, and the interior feels bigger than it looks.

My New MPV - 2002 Mazda MPV
By lphillips - February 17 - 10:00 amI went from an Audi A4 to a loaded MPV. So far Im happy. Vehicle handles great and has a very versatile interior. So far, the dealer has been great.Since IOve only had the MPV about a month, I will report again in 6 months to see if I am still happy.Looked at the Odyssey. It was too big and the dealers too greedy.

Great Van (desert sand w/GFX) - 2002 Mazda MPV
By MPV Owner - January 20 - 10:00 amOur previous van was a 93 Quest GXE so I am very comfortable with the size of the MPV. The power is excellent (climbing mountains is a breeze. I love the vehicle: great looks, size, handling, power and features. Hate the shift lever. The blower for the rear air could be stronger but if cools nicely (but a little slowly). I would recommend this vehicle to anyone. We wanted a 2003, but they dumped the luxury package but we were able to find an 02 with the luxury and GFX packages. The GFX package makes a huge difference in the appearance.

Good MPV - 2002 Mazda MPV
By Chop100 - January 12 - 10:00 amWe sold a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee to buy the 2001 Mazda we bought. So far its a great vehicle. By far the easiest vehicle to drive Ive ever owned. great visibility, handling and roads manners. The off the line performance is not great, but generally lack of power is not that noticeable.

Zoom, zoom, zoom - 2002 Mazda MPV
By B. Foster, Jr. - December 24 - 2:00 amMazda has finally gotten it right. Dont get me wrong, if you want a big minivan, the MPV is not for you. But, if you want a reliable, fun-to-drive minivan with average room for a family of four+, then the MPV is for you. You cant beat the size, price, and value. Also, Zoom-zoom!!

Very Surprised!!! - 2002 Mazda MPV
By tgaines14 - November 24 - 10:00 amI must say that I am one of those guys who said that he would never own a minivan. Well, three kids later, and theres just not much that I could do about it. I researched the minivan market for quite some time, and ultimately chose this van. I have been very surprised with it. It has definitely exceeded all of my expectations. It is simply a great vehicle to drive.

30 Day Report - 2002 Mazda MPV
By glideslopes - August 19 - 2:00 amWell, I wanted to wait 30 days before posting my review. We just love our MPV. We had a Quest prior to this. The size was nice for us. We did consider going larger to the Ody, but the price of the MPV was simply a much better value for us. It is extremely well engineered, built, and uses high quality materials throughout. We did not feel there were any quality advatages to the Ody, and resale is not a huge issue to us as we keep our vans 6 years and put around 150,000 on them. We were fortunate that we found a vehicle meeting our needs on the lot. The DW and I actually attempt to out maneuver each other these days to see who takes the MPV on an event.

nva mpv lx reveiw - 2002 Mazda MPV
By ed_r_22192 - July 20 - 10:00 amThe LX we purchased has peformed flawlessly. To include a 1500 mile round trip from Northern Virginia to East Central Illinois. While in the Indiana area we were able to see the Traction Control System perform. While travelling down a muddy dirt road the cars ahead of us were fishing tailing and seemed to have difficulty controlling themselves. The MPV had no problems and the flashing TCS light indicated it was doing its job. We were even fortunate enough to exceed to posted MPG rattings averaging just over 27 MPG. I would recommend this model MPV to anyone.

A Van That Feels Like a Car - 2002 Mazda MPV
By marc9595 - June 9 - 2:00 amWe bought an MPV in 2001. In 2002, we were in an accident and the van was totaled. Nobody was hurt. Because of its safety record and our pleasurable driving experience with the MPV, we replace the totaled MPV w/ a 2002 MPV. We have almost 30,000 miles on the van and have had no difficulties with it at all. Gas mileage has ranged from 18 around town to as high as 29 on the highway. The MPV is a bit smaller than most vans, but I would recommend it if you have a smaller family. It probably wouldnt be as useful to us if we had for teenagers for example.
